whitepaper SAP Transaction Banking: IBM System z DB Server Using DB2 V9.1 for z/OS Large Database Measurements2008-05-23 IBM
The SAP TRansaction BanKing (TRBK) application has evolved significantly over time. Not only does it provide significantly more function for banks, it now exploits functions such as Unicode and SAP's NetWeaver. These measurements, as well as the previous TRBK measurements, show that both the posting and balancing workloads can exploit Parallel Sysplex well. However, there are distinct differences between the two workloads. Posting has much higher data base I/Os. It also has a lower Parallel Sysplex coupling efficiency. Balancing, due to its update nature, has a high logging rate. These general distinctions and characteristics existed even in previous versions of the application. Both workloads' efficiency can be improved by tuning - especially with respect to DB2.
whitepaper Maximizing Revenues in Troubled Times: Proven Methods of Extracting Water From a Stone2008-04-17 Kaulkin Ginsberg
In the current health care environment, everyone is facing decreased payor reimbursements as the market is generally at Medicare or some comparable rate based on that governmental agency. Everyone is also seeing increased payor claim edits and controls as well as more complicated payment and authorization processing. This has led many health care economists to the conclusion that the billing cycles in physicians' offices are the most complicated revenue cycles in American business today. Like any other small business, it is vital that a medical practice understands the importance of cash. Practices with a reliable cash flow are healthy ones.

whitepaper Curses or Cures: State Regulations, Hospital Creditors, and the ARM Industry2008-03-01 Kaulkin Ginsberg
With less than a year until the 2008 presidential election, polls show that healthcare has become the most pressing domestic concern for many Americans. Consumers' rising out-of-pocket healthcare expenses and the more than 40 million uninsured citizens in the United States almost certainly have contributed to predictions that for-profit hospitals' bad debt expense could grow to $12.5 billion in 2007. Although federal legislation such as the embattled SCHIP expansion bill receives much of the national media attention, several states have enacted laws in 2007 that directly impact how hospital creditors and their partners in the Accounts Receivable Management (ARM) industry collect delinquent medical debt.

whitepaper The Instantly Responsive Enterprise: The Marriage of Business Process Management and Complex Event Processing2008-03-01 BEA Systems
The BPM-CEP synergy discussed here is characterized as the optimal processing of business events, but be sure not to be misled: The "Complex processing" part is critical. In a world where large enterprises are bombarded with a million events per second, CEP is the only technology able to filter out unnecessary data, recognize patterns, and aggregate, process, and derive composite events that matter to business processes. According to David Luckham's write-up "SOA, EDA, BPM and CEP Are All Complementary," the easiest way to build a (new) event-driven process is to use Event-Driven SOA, which offers event-driven services that new processes need.

whitepaper Introduction to Business Rules: Taking Advantage of Business Rules Management Systems2008-02-05 IBM
Business rules have existed since companies started automating business processes using software applications. Traditionally, they have been buried deep inside the application in some procedural programming language. As business rules matured, business users tried to control and manage these rules without directly having to deal with IT, which hasn't always been successful. Using an example from the insurance industry, this paper provides an introduction to business rules and the importance of Business Rules Management Systems (BRMS) in bridging the gap between business and IT.
