Young People Unable to Attend School Get Better Grades Using New E-Learning Portal | 2006-10-05 | Microsoft |
| Young People outside school often have significantly lower academic achievement than their school or college-based peers. This is due to lack of resources, and reduced access to subject specialist teachers and group learning opportunities. The Nisai Virtual Academy (NVA) has been developed to enhance children's opportunities for learning and gaining qualifications.

Professional Learning, Competence Development and Knowledge Management - LOKMOL and L3NCD | 2006-10-02 | Catholic University of Leuven |
| In many organizations most working processes are very knowledge intensive and involve many people working at different locations and on different tasks. The learning process is characterized by self-organized activities such as selecting the environment for learning, defining learning goals, finding and selecting content for learning, and following a preferred learning path. Beside a continuous formal competence development, sharing knowledge among members of the organizations and making ones knowledge explicit for others is crucial. Working and learning takes place in a network of people, tools, environments, and knowledge. These networks facilitate interaction and communication. The use of available e-Learning and Knowledge Management applications in a network setting can help to address the challenge of continuous competence development.

Better Paths to Profit: Benefiting from ERP Technology | 0000-00-00 | Exact Software |
| When new software is implemented within any company, the common goal is to deploy the update quickly to avoid downtime and complexity for execution. Much focus is placed here through proper Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). However, for larger companies, hiccups in the process are easier to digest than for small and mid-size businesses (SMBs) who might not have the budgets and personnel to smooth out the issues.
This white paper outlines fundamental concepts that can be utilized by SMBs to help them through the software implementation process. It teaches the simple steps it will take to minimize business disruption, and how to reap the benefits, both technologically and profit-wise. Cost-Sensitive Learning of SVM for Ranking | 2006-09-18 | Springer Science+Business Media |
| This paper proposes a new method for learning to rank. 'Ranking SVM' is a method for performing the task. It formulizes the problem as that of binary classification on instance pairs and performs the classification by means of Support Vector Machines (SVM). In Ranking SVM, the losses for incorrect classifications of instance pairs between different rank pairs are defined as the same. In many applications such as information retrieval the negative effects of making errors between higher ranks and lower ranks are larger than making errors among lower ranks. Therefore, it is natural to bring in the idea of cost-sensitive learning to learning to rank, or more precisely, to set up different losses for misclassification of instance pairs between different rank pairs. | |||

Australian University Uses Multimedia to Revamp E-Learning and Improve Teaching Techniques | 0000-00-00 | Microsoft |
| With one of the most culturally diverse student bodies in the world encompassing a range of socio-economic backgrounds, Victoria University had to ensure that its e-learning programs accounted for differences in culture and learning styles. They also had to deliver consistent teaching across 13 geographically dispersed campuses, as well as to students overseas. Adopting the maxim: "Learning is not a spectator sport," the school sought ways to encourage interactivity. The result is a multimedia solution that uses Microsoft products to create dynamic new learning options.

Chicago Public Schools Integrate Technology With Help From the Intel Teach Program | 2006-09-01 | Intel |
| When a school district the size of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) embarks on an effort to fully integrate technology into teaching and learning, it encounters staggering numbers. Some 600 schools require technology hardware and technical support. The majority of the district's 25,000 teachers need extensive professional development to gain proficiency in technology integration. More than 600 principals vary widely in their beliefs about how technology can support instruction. In particular, the district is using the Intel Teach Program, part of the Intel Education Initiative, as a catalyst for changing the way teaching and learning take place in classrooms throughout Chicago. Intel Teach is a worldwide effort to help teachers effectively integrate technology into instruction.

10 Steps in Developing an Enterprise-Wide Compliance Training Strategy | 2006-08-11 | Compliance Training |
| Companies spend millions each year conducting mandatory training. Whether triggered by an audit, the risk of non-compliance, bad PR, or internal training requirements, achieving compliance can be difficult and costly. Enforcing compliance often meets with resistance. Many organizations waste millions of dollars keeping up with training requirements and reporting training data. Even with all of the effort, manual processes typically have gaps and increase an organization's risk of non-compliance. Furthermore, organizations often uncover redundant processes that manage separate compliance needs. These could be leveraged with better planning. | |||
