Consolidating Storage With a Sun StorEdge 9960 System SAN Brings Availability, Scalability, Performance and Flexibility for Aircraft Sensor Industry Leader | 2005-05-05 03:29:23 |
Sun Microsystems |
| |
Goodrich Sensor Systems division supplies ultra-reliable aircraft and engine sensors to makers of commercial, regional, business and military aircraft worldwide. Goodrich Sensor Systems wanted the flexibility to reallocate storage among multiple servers to accommodate business requirement fluctuations, such as elevated demand during month-end accounting periods. Goodrich Sensor Systems and EDS concurred that the Sun StorEdge 9960 system was the clear choice because of its advantages in performance, availability, scalability, pricing and support. The Sun StorEdge 9960 system's virtually flawless uptime performance during the first 12 months EDS worked with it resulted from the system's inherently high reliability and Sun's excellent support under the SunSpectrum PlatinumSM service program.

Best Practices for Configuring HP StorageWorks EVA | 2006-11-07 06:48:04 |
Hewlett-Packard |
| |
A driving design objective of the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array program was to optimize real-world performance while reducing storage management costs. That objective was achieved, in part, by minimizing the number of tunable settings that administrators can configure. However, if your HP StorageWorks EVA must truly be optimized for cost, performance, or availability, you’ll still need to tweak certain settings. This white paper outlines best practices for optimizing your HP StorageWorks EVA deployment.

SANFS Maestro: A SAN File System Planner | 2005-04-07 04:22:58 |
IBM |
| |
Manual planning of storage infrastructures that are large and that utilize heterogeneous devices has become a time consuming and error prone process. This problem becomes even more complex when one is designing storage area network file system (SAN FS) based storage solutions. SAN FS systems that combine the benefits of both SAN and network attached (NAS) systems have been proposed as a mechanism for designing scalable storage infrastructures. This paper proposes a SAN FS capacity planning tool that takes application level requirements, best practices, and other types of policy input to design the necessary SAN FS logical and physical constructs.

Clearing the Clutter: HP Storage Area Network Solution Allows Miami-Dade County, Fla., to Save Money and Improve Services | 2005-04-08 07:21:36 |
Hewlett-Packard |
| |
Miami-Dade is the eighth-largest county in the nation and the largest county in Florida. Miami-Dade wanted to reduce reliance on paper documents, while providing fast, secure and reliable storage for a huge cache of data. Miami-Dade implemented a data storage and dissemination solution based on HP SAN and server technology. Miami-Dade deployed HP StorageWorks EVA5000-based disk subsystems; a variety of HP ProLiant servers; and HP Systems Insight Manager software. The county now significantly reduced its use of paper records. The solution provides better data security, faster and easier movement of information and a reduction in overall operating costs.

Gaining Agility: HP Storage Solutions Build Winning IT Platform for Fontana, Calif. | 2005-04-08 06:50:44 |
Hewlett-Packard |
| |
Fontana is the city is home to 154,789 residents. Over the years, the city transitioned from a farming community to steel production, and is now home to diversified industries and major distribution centers. Fontana wanted to deploy a centralized, scalable storage solution with virtualization capabilities to support mission-critical applications. Reduce infrastructure costs, management time and installation downtime. HP Services implemented a storage area network (SAN) based on the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 5000, which is attached to 18 HP ProLiant servers and an HP StorageWorks MSL5060SL tape library. This implementation provided solution centralized, scalable and virtualized storage capacity.

San Diego State University Graduates to HP Virtualized Storage | 2005-04-07 03:25:36 |
Hewlett-Packard |
| |
Like many educational organizations, San Diego State University (SDSU) had taken most of its IT resources - especially storage - and manage constant change under tight budget constraints. To meet ever-expanding IT requirements, SDSU's University Computer Operations (UCO) needed to find a way to increase storage flexibility, improve storage utilization, reduce its backup window, and free staff for more productive work. UCO decided to implemented virtualized storage solution from HP, including an HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 5000 (EVA5000), configured as a storage area network (SAN); a StorageWorks ESL9595 tape library; and several StorageWorks software solutions, including Business Copy for EVA, Secure Path, and Command View EVA.

HP Cluster Computing Helps Researchers Unlock Secrets of Carbohydrate/Protein Interaction | 2005-04-08 06:27:46 |
Hewlett-Packard |
| |
At the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC) at the University of Georgia, a team is working to develop methodologies to study carbohydrates. The team's challenge is to study the interaction of carbohydrates and proteins in water, using molecular dynamic simulations. The challenge for CCRC was to facilitate faster, more complex simulations on carbohydrate/protein interactions run using AMBER/GLYCAM simulation software. They implemented LC series HP High Performance Compute Clusters and HP StorageWorks RAID storage arrays. These high-performance computing solutions combined with Myrinet networking provide the low latency and fast CPU performance needed to model complex interactions at the atomic level, providing new insights into metabolic processes.
