The Five Critical SLA Questions: What You Need to Know Before You Define Your Managed File Transfer Service Level Agreements | 2007-08-01 | Sterling Commerce |
| A Service Level Agreement (SLA) is a formal, negotiated agreement that spells out the level of service that will be delivered from a service provider to its customer. In this way it is both a commitment and a score card.
You know the definition. But are you aware that the use of SLAs as part of the service delivery management process is on the rise - regardless of whether it's for external use, internal use, or outsourcing agreements? According to Oblicore, external use remains ubiquitous at about 91 percent; internal use is up to 84 percent from 60 percent in 2005; and in outsourcing, it is up to 88 percent from 57 percent in 2005. Are you now looking at an SLA commitment? If you're going to succeed, you'll have to do your homework. This paper identifies the five critical steps you should take before you define your Service Level Agreements. Tags: MSP, Service Level Management, SLA, E-commerce Security |

From Outsourcing to Selective Sourcing: Considerations for Sharing the IT Load Through Flexible Managed Services for Storage | 2007-08-01 | Sun Microsystems |
| A significant percentage of the Fortune 500, including GM, Proctor & Gamble, Blue Cross, and Xerox outsource their entire IT departments to a third party. Most cite the same reasons: outsourcing IT allows them to focus with less distraction on their core businesses, create a more predictable cost structure for IT services, and reduce the legal risk and expense of regulatory noncompliance, incomplete backups, slow or ineffective disaster recovery, unplanned downtime, spotty data availability, escalating storage costs, and other characteristics of inefficient IT environments. This paper focuses on the five most compelling attributes of selective sourcing, and discusses some behind-the-scenes considerations that factor into any evaluation of a shared storage management model.

Assessing the Role of Information Technology (IT) & Enterprise Software in BPO | 2007-05-01 | EquaTerra |
| The original market assessment findings illustrated that these BPO decision makers were very positive about the role of IT in general and enterprise software in particular in supporting BPO efforts. They clearly recognized that while BPO was focused on "business process," it was not advisable to disassociate it from the underlying IT applications and systems. BPO buyers also had clear preferences on the commercial enterprise software vendors they would like to use in their BPO efforts. Commercial software vendor preferences, however, typically were based on strategic IT investment decisions that had been made prior to, and separate from, BPO decisions and investments. The overall challenge, however, is not so much appreciating the value of IT and enterprise software to BPO.

Reducing Risk Through Requirements-driven Quality Management: An End-To-End Approach | 2007-05-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| When IT undertakes a development project, it contracts with the business which requirements will be fulfilled and when they will be delivered. No attorney would permit his client to sign a legal contract unless all the risks were known, yet IT departments often lack the ability to quantify and respond to the risks that arise during development and test. Requirements management helps IT quantify the risks associated with each requirement and make informed decisions about resource allocation and release. Get a better understanding of how to trace requirements from definition to release and, by giving IT and business managers real data to support decisions, fulfill your contract.
