whitepaper Implementing a Utility Computing Environment Based on Virtualization2006-11-08 01:00:18 BMC Software
Many enterprises are saddled with cumbersome, yet highly underutilized, IT infrastructures that hamper their ability to adapt to changing business conditions. Virtualization technology can help these enterprises address the IT complexity and resource utilization issues. Creating a virtualized, utility computing environment is by no means a trivial undertaking. It requires in-depth planning to deliver optimal results that meet expectations. A careful transition is vital to ensuring that the virtualization of the environment does not disrupt business operations. The ability to monitor and manage the new environment, which includes both physical and virtual resources, must be included. Finally, a mechanism for continuous improvement should be implemented.
whitepaper Packaging Company Lowers Costs and Administration Time With Messaging Server2006-09-14 01:00:16 Microsoft
Paperboard packaging manufacturer Graphic Packaging International (GPI) wanted to consolidate 22 messaging server computers, migrate 1,800 Lotus Notes mailboxes, and upgrade 1,700 mailboxes at a new centralized location in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, GPI wanted to simplify how remote users log on to its network. Because of the company's previous satisfaction with Microsoft Windows Server System and Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5, the company decided to upgrade to Exchange Server 2003 running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003. As a result of the deployment, the company has consolidated its 15 server computers to 2, with an additional two used as a failover solution. The company has also reduced the time spent on mailbox administration by 50 percent and simplified the remote-user experience.
whitepaper How the Oracle Enterprise Technology Center Scaled its Storage Infrastructure to Meet Customer Demand2006-09-11 12:35:41 3PAR
As its largest hands-on training facility, Oracle's Enterprise Technology Center (ETC) is used by Oracle and its customers to develop, demonstrate, and test Oracle solutions in a full-scale enterprise environment. But prior to a February 2005 storage upgrade, capacity limitations prevented the Oracle ETC from satisfying all its customers' support and testing needs. This case study highlights the storage-related issues that were impacting the ETC and explains how 3PAR's InServ S400 Storage Server, Thin Provisioning, and Dynamic Optimization technologies enabled the ETC to solve its capacity problems once and for all.
whitepaper Five Ways to Maximize Value of Future IT Investments2006-09-09 16:43:26 RTO Software
This white paper discusses several key issues that will impact your company as it moves toward a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web Services technologies. The paper drills down on five critical strategies that can help you transform your existing infrastructure to a next-generation model, including the need to:

  • Recognize that it's not enough to have the fastest, most
    robust hardware
  • Make a distinction between revenue-generating and
    administrative-support applications
  • Set a plan for critical path monitoring
  • Align system and application performance metrics with
    business metrics
  • Establish a plan to guard against security threats and generate audit trails to meet regulatory requirements

Download the white paper, compliments of RTO Software, to learn more about moving to a next-generation infrastructure and how you can gain the maximum value and business success from those investments.

whitepaper Delivering Consistently Superior User Experiences2006-09-09 16:41:47 RTO Software
The lack of application-centric metrics and analysis tools makes it difficult, if not impossible, for IT managers to optimize application performance. That is the premise of this white paper, which highlights the key challenges associated with measuring application performance in today's heterogeneous IT environments. The paper addresses a variety of issues related to performance evaluation and management, including:

  • The trend toward Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) and its implications for application performance measurement
  • The complexities introduced by virtualization and grid computing
  • The demands for real-time business intelligence (BI) and
    decision support

Download the paper for free, compliments of RTO Software, to learn more about the importance of application-level performance measurement and to discover why derivative metrics—those that measure server or network performance—are of little to no value when it comes to delivering superior end user experiences.
