whitepaper Benchmarking Servers Using Virtual Machines2007-04-27 Indiana University
Virtualization software is often used in enterprise on server machines to run Virtual Machines (VMs), each running a distinct server. is has many benefits including flexibility and lower hardware cost. is paper presents the results from conducting a performance evaluation of two comparable dual quad-core server machines, one from HP and another from Dell, both running VMWare ESX V3. The performance is measured using a series of independent benchmarks testing the performance of a le server, database server, web server, java server and email server. This multi-workload benchmark is used to evaluate the two server machines and how the different server workloads interact to better utilize the hardware resources.

whitepaper Sun Virtual Desktop Access Kit for VMware Sun Desktop Virtualization Solution2007-03-08 Sun Microsystems
As virtualization technology, which improves flexibility and mobility both for users and for IT organizations, has made its way into desktop architectures, there has been an increasing need for corresponding software tools and management capabilities. A properly designed desktop virtualization solution should allow users to access their desktop environments from an assortment of devices, such as PCs, thin clients, and compatible web browsers. The Sun Desktop Virtualization solution consolidates desktop operating system instances into the data center, using remote display protocols on a wide array of devices and network access methods to present them to users. Secure hosting and management of virtual desktop instances within the data center make it easier to offer remote user access that is both local and secure.
