Enterprise Risk Management in the Financial Services Industry: International Benchmark Survey May 2007 | 2007-05-01 | SAS Institute |
| The survey reveals that financial institutions are continuing to invest in ERM. Risk-based regulations - such as Basel II, Solvency II and Anti-Money Laundering - have acted as catalysts for ERM-related investment. However, this investment is often a reaction to "Silo-based" compliance requirements and not part of a structured strategic initiative. Integrating the tactical compliance projects into an overall ERM program remains the key challenge. The survey also indicates that expected benefits of ERM have not been realized to date; however, financial institutions must not lose sight of the role that ERM will play in achieving their long-term objectives. Clearly, the complexity and effort required for true ERM have been underestimated.

Dynamic, Risk-Based Assessment of Customers and Transactions: Identifying, Investigating and Reporting Suspicious Patterns of Behavior With SAS Anti-Money Laundering | 2007-02-01 | SAS Institute |
| The events of 9/11 and subsequent terrorist attacks have increased regulatory emphasis on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) in order to stem the flow of illicit financial activity. Many institutions initially made modest technology investments in order to meet minimum AML requirements. However, this minimalist approach can't provide an enterprisewide view of money laundering risk and it actually increases an institution's total cost of ownership due to inefficient investigations, higher staffing costs, the need for successive technology investments, and little value being contributed to other functions, such as marketing and loss recovery management. Today, financial institutions are finding it necessary to strengthen their AML programs in order to effectively identify and report suspicious activity, meet new regulatory mandates and strategically manage compliance risk.

The Impact of the newly emerging field of Financial Data Quality Management (FDQM) on Group Reporting and Performance Management Processes | 2007-01-24 01:00:28 | Hyperion |
| Data quality management could be regarded as the less glamorous end of the Reporting Supply Chain (RSC). After all, most of the attention and interest are lavished on the latest portal, reporting tool or dashboard. Yet, mismanagement or neglect of underlying balance information or interfaces can place the integrity of the whole process in jeopardy. In recent years, financial reporting processes have become intertwined with other key management processes such as budgeting, planning, forecasting, scorecarding and analytics to form a broader performance management platform sharing common data structures. |
