Overview
New generation NAS devices offer twice the performance at almost one tenth of the cost of existing enterprise-class fiber channel NAS devices. And, if your network supports Gigabyte Ethernet, new generation NAS devices are also designed to handle Gigabyte transfer rates.
There is considerable confusion when comparing the cost of devices in different capacities. The two key metrics that can help the comparison are Cost per Terabyte and Cost per MBps of throughput. New generation NAS devices cost one tenth per terabyte of capacity while cost per MBps drops down to about one fifth when compared with existing Fiber Channel NAS boxes.
The deal gets sweeter with the benefits of reduced network bandwidth using optimized advanced replication algorithms that make disaster recovery and continuous data protection a cinch. Ease of management is something that users are looking for progressively and the newer devices leave their current enterprise cousins behind.
