Overview

The traditional Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) market for voice communications is being rapidly displaced by new disruptive technology based on simple protocols designed for the Internet. Traditional CPE systems consisting of proprietary hardware platforms with proprietary interfaces are being supplanted by IT based systems that employ generic hardware platforms and use open Internet and IT interfaces. System complexity, the high-cost of proprietary, hardware-specific, single-purpose networks and the associated barriers to entry that have long been endemic characteristics of the PBX industry hold no currency when they can be easily replaced by software that operates within existing IT infrastructures, what Objectworld calls IT Telephony.
