Overview

Database applications are increasingly being deployed on cost-effective industry-standard servers using Microsoft SQL Server. Third-party application and in-house developers have embraced SQL Server due to its low cost and ease of deployment. This has produced a phenomenon in recent years known as SQL Server sprawl. With each database application typically deployed on its own server, SQL Server sprawl leads to poor utilization, inadequate availability, and a management burden for system administrators. SQL Server sprawl is making it increasingly difficult to protect, upgrade, and manage an ever increasing number of SQL Servers. HP PolyServe Software for Microsoft SQL Server solves the problem of SQL Server sprawl by creating a shared database cluster which centralizes and simplifies the management and protection of a group of SQL Server applications.
