Overview

EMC Corporation wanted to contain costs for the large, global services provider by enabling the company to migrate to lower cost commodity hardware and provide the flexibility to host databases in multiple ways to optimize energy efficiency and minimize operating costs. The challenge was to ensure scalability to support EMC's growth and meet future IT infrastructure needs for long lifecycle projects and provide robust monitoring capabilities to ensure high system availability. EMC Corporation implemented a three-node, 400- to 500-gigabyte grid computing solution using Oracle Database 11g to enable EMC to migrate to lower cost commodity hardware and improve data center efficiency and hosted a number of databases in multiple ways to optimize data center resources and reduce costs.
