whitepaper Scientists Boost Productivity With User-Friendly High-Performance Solution2009-06-01 Microsoft
Nile University is a non-profit privately owned research university in Egypt. The life-science researchers at CIS need to analyse huge amounts of biological data to compare genomic sequences. Using conventional computers this would not be possible, so high-performance computing (HPC) is vital to their success. Scientists at the Centre of Informatics Science (CIS) at Nile University worked with Microsoft to migrate their open-source applications for bioinformatics to Windows HPC Server 2008. With a user-friendly interface and advanced job-scheduling and deployment features, CIS researchers have succeeded in developing their applications 50 per cent faster than previously, and now enjoy easy-to-use tools that improve research speed.

whitepaper UAE Performance Management Solution Drives Transformation in Public Services2009-02-01 Microsoft
The United Arab Emirates federal government wanted to deliver an improvement plan for public services aimed at reaching strategic targets by the end of 2010. The key to delivery of the transformation strategy is an automated performance management system, called ADAA (performance in Arabic), and based on Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 business intelligence software. Every quarter, federal government entities submit their progress reports to the Prime Minister's Office, which then uses automated tools to measure their performance based on more than 3,000 key performance indicators. Four analysts can easily review the large amounts of data, whereas it would take tens of people to do the same job manually.

whitepaper University of Houston's Advanced Computing Research Laboratory (ACRL) and Texas Learning and Computation Center (TLC2) Uses a Server Cluster Based on the AMD Opteron Processor for Leading-Edge Scientific Research Studies2009-01-01 Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
The University of Houston's Texas Learning and Computation Center is a promising research center within the university, supporting the computational sciences and engineering, and computer science as cornerstones of the university's most innovative research. There was a shift of emerging disciplines within the life sciences (i.e., bioinformatics), from being largely experimental to becoming computationally intensive. The challenge for ACRL was to direct its research and development efforts to systems based on new architectures that will dominate the scientific and engineering marketplace before they begin to dominate the marketplace. University deployed AMD Opteron processor Models 246, with 4 GB of memory and four nodes with 4P AMD Opteron processor Models 842, with 16 GB each, an interesting solution to a nagging performance bottleneck with conventional designs.

whitepaper Business Process Solution Helps Dental Equipment Maker to Increase Sales2008-11-01 Microsoft
A-dec, a leading manufacturer of dental equipment and furniture, wanted to automate its cabinetry-sales quoting process. For each order, employees made technical drawings so that customers could see what they were buying. This process took up to three days and impeded quality control. Also, the company's ordering system didn't provide employees with usable sales and business-process data. With help from EMC Consulting, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, A-dec deployed a service-oriented architecture solution based on Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2, part of the Microsoft application platform. Now, sales quotes complete with three-dimensional drawings are generated automatically, usually in less than two hours; quality control is automated; and business users have tools for monitoring and managing the system.
