The user interface and underlying infrastructure are designed so that normal user acts of designation provide all the information needed to make the desired security decisions. While SCoopFS is a useful tool, it may be more important as a demonstration of the usability that comes from designing the infrastructure and user interaction together.

On the Dell PowerEdge R710, they used the Unified Server Configurator (USC), which one can access by pressing F10 during the server boot process. USC provides a single point for operating systems installation, firmware updates, server diagnostics, and remote management configuration. The USC is on an embedded chip, so no Compact Disks (CDs) are necessary. They used USC version 1.1 for this comparison. This paper presents the summary results for some of the tasks they performed.
