whitepaper Group-Based Security in a Federated File System2009-03-31 Texas Tech University
The SILENUS federated file system was developed by the SORCER research group at Texas Tech University. The distributed file system with its dynamic nature does not require any configuration by the end users and system administrators. Managing security in a metacomputing system is a new challenge. It must be ensured that every user has a valid authentication and authorization to view, modify, and create files in the system spread across many heterogeneous computers that to individual requestor, it looks and acts like a single computer. User management is a must be on a metacomputing system and scale well. Existing user credential databases must be incorporated as secure data services if present. In this paper a new scalable authentication model for federated file systems is described.

whitepaper AXIGEN Mail Server: Mobile Email Solutions Using Push Email & PIM Synchronization2009-03-16 GECAD TECHNOLOGIES
While the complexity and requirements that large scale solutions must achieve have greatly increased during the last few years, a growing number of service providers have also started to include support for enterprise functionalities in order to better meet and adapt to their customers' ever changing messaging needs. With email quickly becoming the primary means of communication for both corporate and individual users, the competition in the market also gets tougher every day. whitepaper Not One Click for Security2009-03-06 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
Conventional wisdom holds that security must negatively affect usability. The paper has developed SCoopFS (Simple Cooperative File Sharing) as a demonstration that need not be so. SCoopFS addresses the problem of sharing files, both with others and with ourselves across machines. Although SCoopFS provides server authentication, client authorization, and end-to-end encryption, the user never sees any of that. The user interface and underlying infrastructure are designed so that normal user acts of designation provide all the information needed to make the desired security decisions. While SCoopFS is a useful tool, it may be more important as a demonstration of the usability that comes from designing the infrastructure and user interaction together.

whitepaper Server Management Solution Comparison on Dell PowerEdge R710 and HP ProLiant DL385 G5p Servers2009-03-01 Principled Technologies
Server management provides ease of use for end users during various tasks they perform. For this comparison, they used each manufacturer's application to perform the following tasks: initial operating system installations, firmware updates, diagnostics, and remote management setup. On the Dell PowerEdge R710, they used the Unified Server Configurator (USC), which one can access by pressing F10 during the server boot process. USC provides a single point for operating systems installation, firmware updates, server diagnostics, and remote management configuration. The USC is on an embedded chip, so no Compact Disks (CDs) are necessary. They used USC version 1.1 for this comparison. This paper presents the summary results for some of the tasks they performed.
