EDS Reduces Costs and Improves Security With New Automated Deployment Solution | 2006-11-08 01:00:18 | Microsoft |
| Technology solutions provider EDS operates a global network with more than 120,000 seats spread over different locations. Its IT team is charged with the task of installing business productivity applications across this network, including areas with bandwidth limitations. EDS required an automated software deployment solution similar to the services it provides for its customers. Reducing Total Cost of Ownership for NetApp Filers With Folderscape | 2006-11-08 | PAC Software |
| Years ago, the terms "Server" and "File server" were almost synonymous. Centralized storage of data in the form of user-accessible folders and files was the primary function of most servers. Over time, servers have taken on a much wider set of roles - including such things as email servers, database servers, application servers, and more. As part of this transition, generalized operating systems for servers, such as Microsoft Windows, have had to be platforms for these varied tasks. As a result of taking on such a variety of tasks, such operating systems haven't been able to focus on their original function: serving files.

Templates for More Efficient Virtualization Management | 2006-11-01 | SWsoft |
| Many IT departments have utilized server virtualization to solve server sprawl. Virtualization makes provisioning a new OS instance so easy that administrators are often required to manage hundreds of virtual environments with many copies of the operating systems and other applications that have to be updated independently.
SWsoft Virtuozzo, an OS level server virtualization product, addresses this problem through it's unique template-based approach to software provisioning that exploits similarities between OS and applications running in different virtual environments. Using templates, administrators can consolidate OS and application management so that only a single instance of a software package is required and managed on a physical machine regardless of the number of virtual environments that use the software. |

What's New in IIS 7 | 2006-10-18 01:00:18 | MessagingTalk.org |
| Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) has been observing a steady growth since they released IIS 6.0. It's in much better shape with minimum complaints. As everyone knows, IIS 4 was not very successful, and IIS 5 was vulnerable and acted as an open door on a public-facing Web server if used, however IIS 6 revolutionized and ensured the premium spot web server performance and security. Its never enough though, as IIS folks at Microsoft continued their effort to make it better in than before with security at its paramount, and it needed rewrite of Windows on the server. That gave them the avenue to revisit few basic views about the architecture and structure of IIS. | |||

Simply put, the majority of costs of IT today are from operations such as maintenance, power and cooling, and downtime. Blades, because of their consolidated design and integrated management, offer a better way to not only reduce costs of operations, but also to eliminate much of the infrastructure hardware costs up front, including networking switches, management software licenses, and cables. |
