whitepaper An On-Line Reorganization Framework for SAN File Systems2006-09-07 University of Southern California
While the cost per megabyte of magnetic disk storage is economical, organizations are alarmed by the increasing cost of managing storage. Storage Area Network (SAN) architectures strive to minimize this cost by consolidating storage devices. A SAN is a special-purpose network that interconnects different data storage devices with servers. While there are many definitions for a SAN, there is a general consensus that it provides access at the granularity of a block and is typically used for database applications. This study focuses on SAN switches that include an embedded storage management software in support of virtualization. The paper describes an On-line Re-organization Environment, ORE that controls the placement of data to improve the average response time of the system.

whitepaper IDC Technical Brief: Enabling Technologies for Power and Cooling2006-09-01 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
In June 2006, Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced its next-generation blade portfolio, the BladeSystem c-Class, which addresses some of the total cost of ownership (TCO) issues that typify high-density computing environments. Among the concerns addressed by HP's newest line of blade servers is the need to manage power and cooling at the rack level. This IDC Technical Brief discusses this issue at length and explains how HP Thermal Logic technologies, introduced with the BladeSystem c-Class portfolio, can help manage and optimize power and cooling resources in high-density data centers.

whitepaper Integrated Lights Out (iLO & iLO 2) for Integrity and HP9000 Entry-Level Servers2006-09-27 01:00:21 Hewlett-Packard
The integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management processor for entry-level Integrity and HP9000 servers is an autonomous management subsystem embedded directly on the server. Like all management processors in the Integrity and HP9000 product line, it is the foundation of the server's High Availability (HA), embedded health, and fault management capabilities. It also provides system administrators secure remote management capabilities regardless of server status or location. This paper discusses the comprehensive combination of remote management capabilities and fault management features made available with Integrated Lights-Out technology.

whitepaper Commonwealth Bank Transforms Information Management With Solution From IBM and Mercury Solutions Centre2006-08-23 01:00:12 IBM
The Commonwealth Bank found that its previous Draft Incident Management System (DIMS) was unable to cope with the thousands of drafts - international financial transfers - generated by the bank each week. The database was unstable, slow, unsupported with no provision for disaster recovery. Branches used inefficient and time-consuming paper-based forms to generate draft incident enquiries. IBM Business Partner Mercury Solutions Centre rebuilt DIMS using IBM Lotus Domino. The system integrates with the bank's existing IBM Lotus Notes environment and an IBM eServer iSeries server provides stable hosting infrastructure for the system. Mercury also worked with the bank to re-engineer the draft incident enquiries process, transforming it into an efficient and streamlined process.
