| Putting people first" is a serious commitment at Astoria Federal Savings and Loan Association, the largest thrift depository headquartered in New York. With an Avaya enterprise telecommunications solution and an Avaya contact center solution already in place, the management team wanted to add secure, effective mobility options so that its tech support and contact center supervisory teams could have maximum flexibility in providing fast, effective responses to employees' and customers' needs. For the mobility and home office solution, Astoria Federal has deployed Avaya 3631 and 3641 Wi-Fi handsets, tied into the Wi-Fi network throughout the main office campus; an extension-to-cellular solution utilized for travel outside the main campus; and a VPNremote phone solution for executives who work at home.

AppLabs Case Study: Polycom | 2008-09-01 | AppLabs |
| Polycom began certifying their SpectraLink Wireless Telephones three and a half years ago in a move to ensure they functioned well with industry-leading, enterprise-grade Wi-Fi access points. After a year of supporting the program in-house, Polycom faced resourcing issues due to the demand for the service from the burgeoning Wi-Fi market, and with increasing pressure to meet industry standards they needed a solution that would not only solve the immediate demand, but also provide added value for their partners. As a result of increasing business pressure, Polycom acknowledged that the delivery of the VIEW Certification Program needed to change. AppLabs were selected due to their breadth of testing experience, strong reputation in certification programs and their flexible attitude towards working in partnership with Polycom.

Robust Security Network (RSN) Fast BSS Transition (FT) | 2008-09-01 | CWNP |
| The 802.11 standard describes the generic process for 802. 1XEAP authentication and key management processes, which includes both generation and distribution of Master Session, Pairwise Master (and Transient), and Group Master (and Temporal) keys. This whitepaper describes specific features found in the 802.11 standard that are designed to aid wireless client stations in fast BSS transition (FT). Applications such as wireless Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) are being deployed at a surprising rate and interoperable FT mechanisms should be deployed b all vendors as a benefit to end users. Most vendors, with notable exceptions, now support Opportunistic Key Caching (also called Proactive Key Caching or Opportunistic PMK Caching).

802.11n: Look Before You Leap - Key Considerations for Moving to 802.11n | 2008-09-01 | Motorola |
| With the introduction of 802.11n, the field of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) is undergoing a paradigm shift as phenomenal as the beginning of WLANs themselves. The extraordinary data rates that the final 802.11n standard will support solidify the realization of an all-wireless enterprise network. Rich multimedia applications will be seamlessly streamed to every point in a facility at better performance than possible with legacy 802.11a/b/g technologies.

How to Replicate the Fire: HA for Netfilter Based Firewalls | 2008-08-22 | Astaro AG |
| With traditional, stateless firewalling (such as ipfwadm, ipchains) there is no need for special High Availability (HA) support in the firewalling subsystem. As long as all packet filtering rules and routing table entries are configured in exactly the same way, one can use any available tool for IP-Address takeover to accomplish the goal of failing over from one node to the other. With Linux 2.4.x netfilter/iptables, the Linux firewalling code moves beyond traditional packet filtering. Netfilter provides a modular connection tracking susbsystem which can be employed for stateful firewalling.

FreeMAC: Framework for Multi-Channel MAC Development on 802.11 Hardware | 2008-08-22 | Association for Computing Machinery |
| Exponential growth in the number of wireless devices that operate in the limited unlicensed frequency spectrum necessitates the next generation of radio devices to be reconfigurable and sensitive to changes in network conditions and spectrum availability. Most modern wireless devices offer increased software programmability and control over radio communication parameters. Since a large portion of the MAC protocol is implemented in software, with the firmware providing a set of functional primitives, it is possible to design and implement alternate MAC protocols in real testbeds equipped with commodity 802.11 devices. This paper describes FreeMAC, a reconfigurableMAC protocol development framework that enables the design and implementation of a general class of multi-channelMAC protocols on a typical Linux system.

Wireless Without Compromise: Delivering the Promise of IEEE 802.11n | 2008-08-21 | Meru Networks |
| IEEE 802.11n products, can deliver performance and reliability equivalent to 10/100 wired Ethernet connections, creating a path for the all-wireless workplace: one with no voice data cables to the desk. The Wi-Fi technology has been improving for several years, to the extent that many students, healthcare workers, and enterprise users now rely on wireless as their primary data connection to the network.

WiMAX Forum White Paper - Spectrum Opportunities Below 1 GHz | 2008-08-01 | WiMAX Forum |
| This paper provides an analysis of spectrum opportunities for WiMAX technologies in bands below 1 GHz. It describes the recent regulatory developments in the bands below 1 GHz, focusing especially on the upper part of Ultra High Frequency (UHF) 470-862 MHz band, i.e. in the sub-band 698-862 MHz which may become available to Mobile Service applications in the next years, typically between 2008-2012.

An Experimental Evaluation of DoS Attack and Its Impact on Throughput of IEEE 802.11 Wireless Networks | 2008-08-01 | Universiti Putra Malaysia |
| Off late, Wireless LAN (WLAN) has gained popularity in a variety of locations. This has lead to development of high level security protocols for WLAN. The newest protocol IEEE 802.11i ratified to provide strong data encryption but it cannot prevent Denial of Service (DoS) attacks on WLAN. This paper in a testbed, conducts an experimental framework to implement and quantify common types of DoS attacks against WLAN throughput. The results of implementation of the experiments shows that how easily DoS attacks can be performed on WLAN which causes to reduce throughput of communication considerably to make inaccessible wireless connection for its authorized members.

WiMAX/Wi-Fi Coexistence in the 3.65GHz Band - Standardization and Simulation | 2008-07-14 | |
| Opening of the 3.65-3.7GHz band in the US has created opportunities to standardize solutions for license-exempt operation of WiMAX systems. This is being realized through the IEEE P802.16h license-exempt amendment. This paper presents a summary of the regulatory requirements of the band, and summarizes efforts within IEEE License-Exempt Task Group in providing a solution for coexistence with 802.11 systems (based on the 802.11y amendment). Some of the technical proposals from the 802.16h draft amendment are presented together with simulation scenarios and accompanying results. Simulation activity is motivated by work within the IEEE 802.19 Coexistence Technical Advisory Group considering WiMAX/Wi-Fi coexistence.
