Trapeze WLAN Allows Airport Staff, Business Tenants and Travelers to Securely Share Single, Common Wireless Infrastructure | 2008-11-05 | Trapeze Networks |
| Manchester Airports Group (MAG) - the second-largest airport operator in the United Kingdom - runs the airports of Manchester, Nottingham East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside. Manchester Airport is the United Kingdom's third largest airport and handles 20 million passengers a year to more than 180 destinations worldwide. The challenge was to implement a campus-wide wireless network at the Manchester Airport that will allow secure access for both staff and travelers, to deploy a single, comprehensive solution rather than multiple networking, etc. MAG deployed Ninety Trapeze Mobility Point access points provide wireless coverage to three airport terminals, two Trapeze Mobility Exchange 400 wireless switches deliver reliable Wi-Fi service for large numbers of users and support 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, etc.

Why your Firewall, VPN, and IEE 802.11i Aren't Enough to Protect Your Network | 2008-11-03 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| Like any network technology, wireless local area networks (WLANs) need to be protected from security threats. Though recent developments in IEEE standards have been designed to help ensure privacy for authenticated WLAN users, WLAN clients and enterprise infrastructure can still be vulnerable to a variety of threats that are unique to WLANs.

digEcor Designs Optimal In-Flight Entertainment Device With D-Link 802.11 a/b/g Wireless Adapter | 2008-11-03 | D-Link |
| digEcor manufactures the digEplayer XT In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) player. The company was bought by Wencor, a 55-year-old leader in the aircraft parts distribution business, in 2004. When digEcor was designing their award-winning digEplayer XT In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) player, they needed to include wireless capability to meet its airline customer requirements. digEcor needed the wireless adapters to feature 802.11 a/b/g functionality to allow maximum flexibility and avoid competition for bandwidth at airports with existing b/g networks. While researching potential suppliers, digEcor noticed that D-Link's commercial product, the D-Link DWL-AG132 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter, fit their technical requirements.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) Case Study: Asan Medical Center | 2008-11-01 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| In anticipation of opening a new 15-story building on its main campus that would house an additional 700 beds, Asan Medical Center wanted to upgrade its wireless LAN infrastructure in order to support new productivity-boosting applications. The hospital was using a centrally controlled Wireless LAN (WLAN) from Cisco, but required a platform that was reliable, cost-effective, and easily scalable to support high-performing real-time applications such as voice-over-Wi-Fi and access to electronic medical records. After an extensive evaluation of major WLAN vendors, AMC selected HP ProCurve to implement a new wireless network throughout its campus. HP ProCurve emerged as the vendor of choice due to its Quality of Service (QoS) for voice-over-Wi-Fi, seamless roaming capabilities, rock-solid wireless security, and ability to support 802.11n applications and devices.

Securing Your Wireless | 2008-09-21 | |
| If the information sent back and forth over the WiFi network isn't adequately encrypted, a hacker can easily tap into the network and monitor one's activity. When one types personal or financial information into a Web site, that hacker can then steal that information and use it to steal one's identity. The old encryption standard Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) can be hacked within 30 seconds, no matter the complexity of the passphrase one can use to protect it.

An Architecture for Extensible Wireless LANs | 2008-09-15 | Harvard University |
| Off late wireless LANs are a mess. The current 802.11 family of WLANs involves a jumble of competing standards, and a slew of implementations with varying degrees of interoperability and conformance to those standards. This situation has arisen in part from the need to innovate and evolve these networks over time, driven by new applications and increasing load. In the future one expects this situation to get worse, given the shift towards wireless as the dominant access network. Driving these changes are new devices such as Wi-Fi enabled VOIP handsets and audiovisual equipment, as well as new services such as Apple's Time Capsule which performs background backups over wireless.
