WPA2 Security: Choosing the Right WLAN Authentication Method for Homes and Enterprises | 2008-04-09 | Global Knowledge |
| Ask a hundred CIOs what three things about WLANs (wireless LANs) strike fear into their hearts, and the answers are likely to be similar: Security, Security, Security. Sure, you want good coverage. Sure, you want to minimize drops. But the only way an executive is likely to lose their job over a wireless network is if they end up like the folks at The TJX Companies, who saw millions of credit card numbers stolen from an attack that started with a breach of the WLAN.
This paper will explore the authentication methods available with WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) and identify several important best practices to consider when deploying a wireless network at home or in the enterprise. Stochastic Analysis of Network Coding in Epidemic Routing | 2008-04-02 | University of Toronto |
| Epidemic routing has been proposed to reduce the data transmission delay in disruption tolerant wireless networks, in which data can be replicated along multiple opportunistic paths as different nodes move within each other's communication range. With the advent of network coding, it is intuitive that data can not only be replicated, but also coded, when the transmission opportunity arises. However, will opportunistic communication with network coding perform any better than simple replications? This paper present a stochastic analytical framework to study the performance of epidemic routing using network coding in opportunistic networks, as compared to the use of replication. It analytically show that network coding is superior when bandwidth and node buffers are limited, reflecting more realistic scenarios.

Sharp Electronics Gains Market Intelligence 400 Percent Faster With Mobility Solution | 2008-04-01 | Microsoft Tips |
| Sharp Electronics needed the most accurate, most detailed intelligence possible about how its products were faring in retail stores nationwide, and it needed to get that intelligence quickly. But the paper-and-pen - based surveys that its field marketing managers took during store visits were time-consuming to collect, error-prone, and not very thorough. To meet its needs, the company turned to Windows Mobile powered devices and the FAST (Field Adapted Survey Toolkit) solution from Microsoft Certified Partner GeoAge. Sharp now updates its surveys 400 percent faster, gains 400 percent more information, and cuts survey time by 67 percent, so that field managers can spend more time building rapport with store personnel and selling product.
