whitepaper Boosting Business Communications - Making a Video Call Easy0000-00-00 Cisco Systems
Innovators John Restrick and James Tighe discuss how video is now just a phone call, and how to make instant, face-to-face virtual meetings a part of an everyday communications experience.
whitepaper Benefits of Web-Based Videoconferencing2004-09-14 Cisco Systems
Traditionally, videoconferencing was way too expensive for most businesses. Typically, only large companies with deep pockets could afford the proprietary equipment and dedicated rooms that the technology required. Cheaper systems were available, but they were slow, frustrating and of limited utility. That was before web-based videoconferencing. Internet technology has changed the entire equation, drastically lowering the cost and increasing the quality of multimedia transmissions. Web-based videoconferencing runs over local and wide area networks, as well as the public internet, turning ordinary desktop and laptop computers into two-way videophones.
whitepaper Why HP People Do and Don't Use Videoconferencing Systems2005-02-04 Hewlett-Packard (HP)
This paper discusses the findings of a Web-based questionnaire aimed at discovering both patterns of use of videoconferencing systems within HP and the reasons people give for either not using, or for using such systems. The primary motivation is to understand these issues for the purpose of designing new kinds of technology to support remote work rather than as an investigation into HP's internal processes.

whitepaper IPTV and IP Convergence: Gaining Competitive Advantage by Creating the Intentional Customer Experience2005-02-01 Amdocs
In order for wireline Communication Service Providers (CSPs) to address the decline in their traditional business, they must include IPTV as a strategic component in their service bundle. However, rapidly launching IPTV, VoIP and other digital content services is not enough. To achieve market leadership, CSPs must undergo a significant business transformation from legacy voice platforms and network focused business models to an agile, customer-centric business model that facilitates a supermarket of digital, multimedia services and an intentional customer experience at all touch points - true ICM. Amdocs understands the need to take an ICM approach to support IPTV services and create an intentional customer experience. This is reflected in their significant commitment to the IPTV space and in Amdocs IP Convergence Solution for IPTV.

whitepaper Investigating the Performance of Audio/Video Service Architecture I: Single Broker2005-01-14 Indiana University
The availability of increasing network bandwidth and computing power provides new opportunities for videoconferencing systems over Internet. The number of homes and small offices with broadband Internet connections are increasing rapidly. Even the cell phones will have broadband Internet access in the near future with the deployment of 3G standards. Therefore, it is not inconceivable to imagine that the trend in the increasing usage of videoconferencing systems will continue by accelerating. This will require universally accessible and scalable videoconferencing systems that can deliver thousands of concurrent audio and video streams. However, developing videoconferencing systems over Internet is a challenging task, since audio and video distribution requires high bandwidth and low latency.

whitepaper Joint Uplink and Downlink Optimization for Video Conferencing Over Wireless LAN2005-01-12 university of maryland
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) has become ubiquitous owing to the great demands of pervasive mobile applications. It has been shown that a cross-layer design can improve the overall performance for a wireless communication system. Recently, joint multiuser video source coding and communication has drawn attention since it can leverage the diversity of video contents and radio resources to achieve more desired quality. In this paper, a real-time video conferencing framework is proposed for multiple conferencing pairs by joint considering the uplink and downlink conditions within IEEE802.11 networks. This system is formulated as to minimize the maximal end-to-end expected distortion received by all users by selecting the PHY modes and transmission time.
