whitepaper Live Webcast: Virtual Service Oriented Grids: Transforming the Enterprise2008-04-22 Intel
One of the most powerful features of computing grids is the capability of being able to identify and allocate resources needed to build and run an application on demand and in almost real time, without months of negotiation or waiting for the hardware procurement cycle to facilitate it.

While most discussions in the industry have been focused on the enhanced performance from grid computing in niche applications, the overlooked real payoff from combining grids with virtualization and service orientation will come in terms of a quantum jump in capability for business agility and flexibility.

With grid computing, three entities - data, storage, and processing - can be allocated independently and metered precisely to support most business goals. Thus, allowing a solution provider to put together a business application that best fit the goals of the application from anywhere in the world. This solution can be assembled from a combination of in-sourced and out-sourced components working seamlessly.

Join this live webcast with Q&A and featuring Enrique Castro-Leon, Enterprise and Data Center Architect and Technology strategist, Intel Corporation and Jackson He, Lead Architect, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel Corporation and hosted by James Hilliard of TechRepublic to learn how organizations can transform their enterprise via a virtual service oriented grids.

whitepaper Model-Based Validation of QoS Properties of Biomedical Sensor Networks2008-04-18 Uppsala University
A Biomedical Sensor Network (BSN) is a small-size sensor network for medical applications, that may contain tens of sensor nodes. This paper presents a formal model for BSNs using timed automata, where the sensor nodes communicate using the Chipcon CC2420 transceiver (developed by Texas Instruments) according to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Based on the model, the paper has used UPPAAL to validate and tune the temporal configuration parameters of a BSN in order to meet desired QoS requirements on network connectivity, packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay. The network studied allows dynamic reconfigurations of the network topology due to the temporally switching of sensor nodes to power-down mode for energy-saving or their physical movements.

whitepaper TechNet Webcast: 24 Hours of Windows Server 2008 (Part 13 of 24): Server and Print Management (Level 300)2008-04-16 Microsoft Tips
This webcast reviews new management tools in Windows Server 2008 designed to help administrators save time and reduce configuration errors. The webcast starts by taking an in-depth look at Server Manager, including Server Manager Wizards and configuring roles with Server Manager; and also explores the different elements of the Server Manager interface. Then the presenter looks at the new Print Management utility and explores how this utility can manage printers remotely and reduce helpdesk visits to printers.

whitepaper Adaptive Bandwidth Management and Reservation Scheme in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks2008-04-15 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
In order to support multiple types of service with different QoS requirements in heterogeneous wireless networks, efficient resource management, call admission control strategies, and mobility management are important issues. This paper proposes Bandwidth Management Strategy 1 (BMS1), Bandwidth Management Strategy 2 (BMS2) and reservation scheme with Fuzzy controller for real-time services. Simulation result shows that the proposed methods balance resource utilization outperforms the previous work and traditional CAC by improving the Call Reject Probability (CRP).

whitepaper Convergence Analysis of Iteratively Detected Time Hopping and DS-CDMA Ultrawide Bandwidth Systems by EXIT Charts2008-04-15 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
This paper presents a novel analysis on the decoding convergence of Time Hopping (TH) and Direct Sequence (DS) Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA) Ultrawide Bandwidth (UWB) systems when communicating over multipath Nakagami channels. The analysis is based on the Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) chart where the UWB systems are serially concatenated pulse-position modulated TH and code-synchronous DS-CDMA. It is shown from an EXIT chart analysis that the multipath diversity can yield a larger area under the EXIT curve of the inner detector. This area is related to the achievable rate of the system and it can be exploited with the aid of iterative detection. Simulation results of the iteratively detected TH and DS-CDMA UWB schemes verify the EXIT chart analysis.

whitepaper Put New Capabilities of Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) to Work, Part 7: Creating User-Defined XPath Functions for IBM WebSphere Business Monitor V6.12008-04-15 IBM
The monitor programming model receives data coming from external events, extracts these data, and maps them to metrics that may trigger other operations to occur. Expressions play an important role; they produce the values used in the monitor model and dictate the overall flow of the monitor model logic. One can define what values are eventually stored, how and when certain operations or events can take place, what events to process, and what monitor context instances to operate on - all by using XPath expressions. Previously, expressions were built mainly from event data, previously computed expressions, and built-in XPath functions. WebSphere Business Monitor V6.1 has introduced the notion of a User-Defined XPath Function (UDXF).
