Impact of QoS on Application Response Time | 2008-04-01 | Research India Publications |
| Quality of Service (QoS) recourses to the capability of a network to provide better service to selected network traffic over various technologies. This paper compares three different algorithms for packet queuing using the simulator program OpNet (OpNet is a network simulator, including a library of detailed protocol and application models (e.g. Voice, HTTP, TCP, IP), the Standard Model Library includes hundreds of vendor specific and generic device models including routers, switches, workstations, and packet generators). This paper supposes a corporation has developed a custom database application. This application stores corporate product information. | |||

Using Cisco IOS Zone-Based and Classic Firewall in High-Availability Network Environments | 2008-04-01 | Cisco Systems |
| Businesses increasingly rely on data networks to carry mission-critical information. This is particularly true for businesses that rely on IP data networks to carry voice-over-IP data for packet telephony. Data networks must offer high-availability capabilities so that business continuity is not interrupted by scheduled maintenance or unexpected downtime due to circuit, power, and physical hardware failures or configuration errors. Cisco IOS Firewall offers features that address stateful failover security requirements, but specific recommendations must be observed for network design and implementation when Cisco IOS Firewall is used for stateful inspection of IP traffic in non-failover environments. This paper addresses questions commonly asked by network engineers about the deployment and application of Cisco IOS Firewall in high-availability network environments.

PHP Scalability and High Availability: Database Resident Connection Pooling and Fast Application Notification | 2008-04-01 | Oracle |
| PHP is a popular dynamic programming language for web applications. PHP comes with extensions that provide a wide range of capabilities including database access. The OCI8 extension in PHP allows applications to connect to Oracle Database. It has support for basic and advanced Oracle Database features, allowing easy and efficient use of SQL and PL/SQL. This paper describes enhancements to PHP's OCI8 extension to use Oracle Database 11g Database Resident Connection Pooling (DRCP) and Oracle Database 10gR2 or 11g Fast Application Notification (FAN).

AutoNation Achieves Backups 12 Times Faster, Cuts Costs With New Backup Software | 2008-03-27 | Microsoft Tips |
| Leading automotive retailer AutoNation watched its data expand as rapidly as its car sales. When its data stores hit 15 terabytes, the company could no longer back up all of its data in a 24-hour period. Also, the tape-based backup scheme required hours of management each week and was often unreliable. AutoNation decided to deploy Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007, a disk-and-tape backup system, to back up its Microsoft-based file, database, and messaging workloads. Since moving to the new software, AutoNation has seen a 12-times reduction in backup times and a six-hour timesaving each week for IT staff. Users are more productive because of the ready availability of disk-based backups, and backup maintenance costs have dropped by 30 percent.

Scalable Non-Blocking Infrastructure Management: A Comparative Study | 2008-03-25 | OnPATH Technologies |
| Today's enterprise environments impose demands for a large-scale, highly available, fault tolerant physical layer infrastructure. Typical storage area and data communication network environments, within a single data center or across geographically dispersed sites, can easily require several thousand ports of connectivity. The ability to plan for and build out network infrastructure in such a way that it is cost-effective, scalable, non-blocking, fault tolerant, and can be monitored and managed more effectively, is of great value to businesses. OnPATH Technologies' Universal Connectivity System 2900 (UCS 2900) family of switch products provides a cost-effective solution to automating enterprise connectivity by scaling from a few hundred non-blocking ports to 4096 non-blocking ports and by simplifying overall infrastructure management.
