Slovenia's T-2 d.o.o. Uses Extreme Networks to Build Future-Ready Triple Play Platform | 2008-05-01 | Extreme Networks |
| T-2 d.o.o. is Slovenia's most innovative and fastest growing service provider. In order to deliver a new triple play service offering and support the highest-quality telephony and television services available in Slovenia, T-2 needed an alternative to the nation's copper-based infrastructure. After deciding to roll out its own fiber, T-2 then needed a high-performance yet cost-effective switching infrastructure. T-2 deployed Extreme Networks which provided a comprehensive solution based on BlackDiamond and Summit switches, providing the performance, reliability, and resiliency needed to deliver voice, video and data services over fiber to the service provider's customers.

Sweden's HL Display Picks Expand Networks for Server Centralisation and Faster WAN | 2008-04-30 | Expand Networks |
| HL Display's partner, IT consultancy XLENT, operates the firm's network and handles the distribution of programmes. However, many of the smaller offices lack IT technicians, which have caused problems with handling local servers. Each part of the group has a back-up server but all email has been routed via the server hall in Sundsvall in northern Sweden. This has resulted in unacceptably long response times for regional offices across the world. HL Display deployed Expand's Accelerator 6930, which covers the entire region in the same way as the equivalent hardware. The WAFS technology built into the Accelerator 6930 and 4930 allows a larger amount of data to be transferred with the same response times as before the consolidation.

Advanced OTDR Analysis - Has Technology Made it a Lost Art? | 2008-04-23 | Fluke Networks |
| Is the ability to manually set up tests and interpret Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) traces becoming a lost art, due to embedded processors and sophisticated software? This article discusses some of the advanced OTDR techniques that expert technicians use to perform during testing.
Similar to a digital photographer's film camera experience, an understanding of the knowledge and skills used for manual OTDR testing can enhance a technician's fiber testing when using the latest OTDR with automatic capabilities. Tags: Monitoring Systems, Bandwidth Issues, Network Administration |

Converging SAN and LAN Infrastructure With Fibre Channel Over Ethernet for Efficient, Cost-Effective Data Centers | 2008-04-22 | Cisco Systems |
| Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) is an emerging data transport technology that simplifies the network fabric by converging both Storage Area Network (SAN) and LAN connectivity onto a single 10 Gigabit Ethernet link. As the use of SANs in the data center continues to grow, FCoE can decrease the cost of connecting servers to the SAN, while also preserving the existing management infrastructure and reducing overall power consumption. By encapsulating Fibre Channel payloads in Ethernet frames, FCoE uses a switch that supports the technology, such as Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches, to connect transparently to existing environments. As a result, organizations can simplify their infrastructures, with fewer server network interfaces, reduced cabling infrastructure, and a unified switching architecture.

N2N: A Layer Two Peer-to-Peer VPN | 2008-04-18 | ntop.org |
| The Internet was originally designed as a flat data network delivering a multitude of protocols and services between equal peers. Currently, after an explosive growth fostered by enormous and heterogeneous economic interests, it has become a constrained network severely enforcing client-server communication where addressing plans, packet routing, security policies and users' reachability are almost entirely managed and limited by access providers. From the user's perspective, the Internet is not an open transport system, but rather a telephony-like communication medium for content consumption. This paper describes the design and implementation of a new type of peer-to-peer virtual private network that can allow users to overcome some of these limitations.
