P2P-Based Collaborative Spam Detection and Filtering | 2008-01-01 | Universita degli Studi di Milano |
| Spam is one of the major problems of today email systems. While many solutions have been proposed to automatically detect and filter spam, spammers are getting more and more technically sophisticated and aware of internal workings of anti-spam systems, finding ways to disguise their emails to get around the different controls that can be enforced. This paper proposes a decentralized privacy-preserving approach to spam filtering. The solution exploits robust digests to identify messages that are a slight variation of one another and a structured peer-to-peer architecture between mail servers to collaboratively share knowledge about spam.

GridCrypt: High Performance Symmetric Key Cryptography Using Enterprise Grids | 2008-01-01 | University of Melbourne |
| Today's cryptanalysis on symmetric key cryptography is encouraging the use of larger key sizes and complex algorithms to achieve an unbreakable state. However, this leads an increase in computational complexity. This has promoted many researchers to develop high-performance symmetric key cryptography schemes using approaches such as the use of high-end computing hardware. Peer-to-Peer (P2P) or enterprise grids are proven as one of the approaches for developing cost-effective high-end computing systems. By utilizing them, one can improve the performance of symmetric key cryptography through parallel execution. This approach makes it attractive for adoption by businesses to secure their documents. This paper proposes and develops an application for symmetric key cryptography using enterprise grid middleware called Alchemi.

Optical Burst Transport Network (OBTN) - A Novel Architecture for Efficient Transport of Optical Burst Data Over Lambda Grids | 2008-01-01 | University of Stuttgart |
| This paper presents a novel network architecture, called Optical Burst Transport Network (OBTN), which can efficiently transport burst data over a virtual topology and reduce the port count of optical burst nodes. In OBTN nodes, bursts from attached optical feeder networks, e. g., metro networks, are multiplexed and transported to their egress OBTN node in one of two ways: preferably on direct end-to-end lightpaths set up between OBTN nodes or alternately on a relatively small number of hop-by-hop overflow burst wavelengths assigned to specific links which are shared among traffic flows.

Optical Networking: The Empowering Infrastructure for Enterprise Architecture Networks | 2007-12-23 | Cisco Systems |
| This paper is designed for IT managers and business executives who are assessing the capabilities of their current Metropolitan-Area and Wide-Area Networking (MAN/WAN) infrastructures to meet their business continuance demands as well as to support powerful new applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP), videoconferencing, and Video On Demand (VOD). These managers and executives recognize that their current MAN/WAN strategy using leased lines, ATM, or Frame Relay is failing to resolve growing challenges, including concerns for resiliency and the ability to support latency-sensitive applications such as voice, video, and storage. And they are concerned about the growing complexity of managing their networks as the number of individual leased lines or ATM or Frame Relay circuits continuously expands, driving up network complexity and telecommunications costs.

Peer-to-Peer Ink Messaging Across Heterogeneous Devices and Platforms | 2007-12-20 | Hewlett-Packard (HP) |
| Pen and touch interfaces for personal and shared devices are becoming increasingly relevant today, in the context of mobility and ease of use. A key capability enabled by pen-interfaces is that of messaging using handwritten, as opposed to text messages. Not only are ink messages easier to enter than text messages (especially when a full keyboard is not present), they allow the incorporation of other elements such as drawings and doodles into instant messaging. However since ink formats are typically platform-specific and proprietary, messaging across different platforms such as Tablet PCs and Linux-based PDAs poses an interoperability problem. This paper shows how Ink Markup Language (InkML), an open draft standard from W3C, can be used to address this problem. | |||

NetMotion Mobility XE Scalability | 2007-05-07 | NetMotion Wireless |
| Designed to support mobile deployments of any size, NetMotion Mobility XE Mobile VPN software scales easily to accommodate growing mobile workforces, and to provide failover and redundancy. The size of the mobile deployment and the load on the network determines whether a single server or a pool of servers should be used. Very roughly, deployments that involve 1,500 or fewer simultaneously connected mobile devices (clients) can use one Mobility XE server; larger deployments can use a pool of up to twelve servers to handle as many as 15,000 simultaneously connected clients. Whatever the size of the deployment, the server(s) and clients are centrally configured and managed from a unified, web-based console.
Read this white paper to learn more about Mobility XE's ability to easily scale to meet your organization's changing mobile deployment needs. Tags: Wireless LAN, VPNs, Network Design, Mobile - Wireless Communications |

Wireless Network Quality of Service (QoS) | 2007-10-09 | NetMotion Wireless |
| A key challenge faced by enterprise IT management is how to ensure the productivity of the growing population of mobile workers. A successful mobile deployment can empower mobile workers with the resources they need to be effective at the point of service, resulting in a more productive workforce, expedited customer service, happier customers and increased revenue. Selecting the right mobile solutions and managing today's mobile enterprise, however, is not a simple task.
Successful mobile deployments require IT management to take a holistic approach managing all elements of the mobile deployment, including applications, wireless networks and devices. This white paper describes how Quality of Service (QoS) can enable organizations to maximize mobile worker productivity and fully leverage the benefits of their mobile deployments.
