| Hiperwall, is a commercial video wall display technology company that enables users to build a scalable, high performance video wall from ordinary computers, monitors and an Ethernet network. When readying the impressive display for customer demonstrations at Hiperwall company headquarters, located in a lab on the UC Irvine campus, CEO of the company and his team ran into a snag. They needed to seamlessly stream various types of content - including unicast, multicast and broadcast formats - to the display, but were experiencing 'Flooding' because the existing switch and router equipment could not efficiently handle the content flow. The company decided to switch to D-Link equipment because of a previous relationship between D-Link and UCI. The D-Link equipment delivered all of the performance company hoped for.

| To overcome the existing scalability problems, DINloop (Data-In-Network loop) based multicast with MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) is proposed to optimize inter-domain multicast. In this approach, multiple DIN Nodes in the core network form the DINloop using MPLS so that multiple multicast sessions share a single DINloop. A label stack method is adopted to use fewer labels and Label Switch Paths (LSPs) are established between DIN Nodes to create the DINloop. Packet Processing Module analyzes the coming multicast packet and MPLS Manager assigns a label stack to it. Simulations show that DINloop based multicast uses the least message load needed to form the multicast architecture.

| To overcome scalability and control overhead problems existing in inter-domain multicast, DINloop (Data-In-Network loop) based multicast with MPLS is proposed. DINloop is a special logical path formed using MPLS Label Switched Paths and it consists of multiple DIN Nodes which are core routers that connect to each intra-domain. DINloop is used to manage inter-domain multicast group membership. Facilitated by the DINloop, multiple DIN Nodes in the core network easily form a Steiner tree for multicast traffic. Furthermore, traffic for different multicast groups sharing the same path are aggregated through a label stack. Simulations demonstrate that DINloop-based multicast results in less message load needed to form the multicast structure.

| This paper presents a new approach to construct multicast trees in MPLS networks. This approach utilizes MPLS LSPs between multicast tree branching node routers in order to reduce forwarding states and enhance scalability. In authors approach only routers that are acting as multicast tree branching node for a group need to keep forwarding state for that group. All other non-branching node routers simply forward data packets over traffic engineered unicast routes using MPLS LSPs. This paper briefly discuss MPLS, the multicast scalability problem, merging the two technologies, related works and different techniques for forwarding state reduction.

| An ad hoc wireless network is an infrastructureless network composed of mobile hosts. The primary concerns in ad hoc networks are bandwidth limitations and unpredictable topology changes. Thus, efficient utilization of routing packets and immediate recovery of route breaks are critical in routing and multicasting protocols. A multicast scheme, On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP), has been recently proposed for mobile ad hoc networks. ODMRP is a reactive (on-demand) protocol that delivers packets to destinations on a mesh topology using scoped flooding of data. A number of enhancements can be applied to improve the performance of ODMRP. This paper proposes a mobility prediction scheme to help select stable routes and to perform rerouting in anticipation of topology changes.

GKMPAN: An Efficient Group Rekeying Scheme for Secure Multicast in Ad-Hoc Networks | 2009-01-01 | University of Texas |
| This paper presents GKMPAN, an efficient and scalable group rekeying protocol for secure multicast in ad hoc networks. Their protocol exploits the property of ad hoc networks that each member of a group is both a host and a router, and distributes the group key to member nodes via a secure hop-by-hop propagation scheme. A probabilistic scheme based on pre-deployed symmetric keys is used for implementing secure channels between members for group key distribution. GKMPAN also includes a novel distributed scheme for efficiently updating the pre-deployed keys.
