whitepaper Image Recognition Wide-Area Surveillance Technology for Safety and Security in Society2007-04-01 Fujitsu
Surveillance is needed to create a safe and secure society. To meet this need, the paper developed a small-object detection technology for 24/7 wide-area outdoor surveillance based on an image recognition technology that is functionally similar to human vision. It can detect people and other small objects that are represented by as little as five pixels in an area of up to 75m square and report their locations. This technology, called Frequency Pattern Emphasis Subtraction (FPES), detects a small object by analyzing the differences between the spatial frequencies of the background and the object. Because FPES emphasizes the spatial frequency component of objects, the detection precision is unaffected by changes in the weather.

whitepaper Leading Oil Company Ensures Availability of Critical IT Systems2007-04-01 Microsoft Tips
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) manages a 1,510-kilometre, U.S.$2.6-billion pipeline that connects oil fields in Kazakhstan with a new sea terminal in Russia. To operate effectively, the company relies on IT systems that monitor 24-hour production processes and support communications between employees at 10 regional offices in Russia and Kazakhstan. To ensure constant availability of these critical systems, CPC has upgraded its IT infrastructure based on the latest Microsoft technologies, including the Windows Server 2003 enterprise operating system. As a result, critical systems are now fully fault tolerant, ensuring the continuity of business processes 24 hours a day. In addition, the company has increased overall network security, improved communications for mobile users and contractors, and streamlined project management.

whitepaper DB2 9 for Linux: High Availability Using Tivoli System Automation and NetApp FAS or IBM N Series Storage System2007-03-09 Network Appliance (NetApp)
This paper explains how to ensure high availability for the DB2 database using Tivoli System Automation (TSA) and a NetApp FAS or IBM N series storage system. Basic configuration and setup steps for a two-node TSA cluster in a DB2, Linux, and NetApp FAS or IBM N series storage system environment are described in detail. Organizations need High-Availability (HA) solutions to make their enterprise data highly available. The IT infrastructure of an organization has various components such as network, server, storage systems, and application processes that can become a bottleneck for data availability. High availability can be achieved by eliminating the Single Point of Failure (SPOF) in the infrastructure.

whitepaper Easy, Cost Effective High Availability x10sure2007-03-01 Fujitsu Siemens Computers
x10sure provides an easy, cost effective, high availability IT solution for small to medium size enterprises, using industry standard servers running Windows applications. x10sure manages a server farm of two or more standard, commodity Windows-based servers. x10sure remote boots production servers using Windows OS and application configuration images stored on a SAN device. x10sure then constantly monitors the production servers for failure. If a server fails, x10sure can automatically reboot a spare server with the same Windows configuration image. Additional servers can be added later as necessary to the same environment.x10sure fits wherever several Windows servers need a significant increase in uptime. It provides high availability recovery of a Windows operating system and application in approximately 2.5 to 5 minutes on a spare server.

whitepaper Netra X4200 M2 Server: Architecture2007-03-01 Sun Microsystems
This white paper describes the architectural features and benefits of the Netra X4200 M2 server. Deregulation and privatization has created intense competition in the worldwide telecommunications market over the past few years. The marketplace continues to evolve as voice and data solutions become more integrated and next-generation wireless, video, and messaging technologies emerge. Growing demand for scalable and available services coupled with modern economic realities are re-shaping the design of the telecommunications infrastructure. Now more than ever, availability of key services can dictate success or failure, with stringent Service-Level Agreements (SLAs) increasingly common.

whitepaper Storewiz STN-6000 High Availability Configurations for NAS Environments2007-02-28 StoreWiz
Continuous data access to network storage involves a redundant and fault-tolerant network infrastructure and a high-availability storage solution with built-in data protection features. A failure of any single hardware device or network link does not prevent access to the data. Software features in both the network and storage layers provide for automatic failover and continuous data access. The Storewiz STN-6000 integrates into all high-availability topologies and configurations seamlessly, without introducing any new single point of failure or degradation of the service level offered by the storage and networking equipment. The level of hardware robustness is maintained as on internal hard drive is required.
