whitepaper Improve Branch Office Admin with Flexible Server Solution2008-06-04 Microsoft
Paul Smith, a global fashion designer, wanted to improve management of its remote infrastructure. A small IT team in England centrally managed the company's entire infrastructure, including distant branch offices. Without local IT support, branch offices could be difficult to manage. Further, local systems could place the whole network at risk if they became compromised. To improve management and stability, Paul Smith is implementing the Server Core installation option of Windows Server® 2008. By taking advantage of hardened services and installing only the server roles required at each location, Paul Smith is reducing risk. With fewer components running on each server, the network will be less vulnerable to attack and software maintenance will be easier. Finally, Paul Smith can implement a remote infrastructure with Windows Server 2008 that is more strategically designed and managed.

whitepaper Massively Scalable NAS: Pre-Empting Tomorrow's Data Overload With Today's Technology2008-05-01 Enterprise Management Associates
NAS has always been simple...unless IT managers wanted to grow their NAS storage significantly. Then the simplicity evaporated. Now, with massive storage build-outs a necessity, a simply managed, highly scalable NAS environment is a must. For the first time, storage administrators are thinking in terms of managing petabytes of data. Fortunately, new technologies make such systems available even to IT shops with limited budgets. Now smaller firms as well as large enterprises can scale their storage to meet demands, and can align their storage investment to accommodate a need for more storage, for faster storage, or both.

whitepaper LG Electronics Nordic AB Reduces Administration Costs by 50% With Integrated Web-Based System2008-05-01 Oracle
LG Electronics Nordic AB, part of the LG Electronics Group, wanted to improve follow-up of costs for marketing campaigns, special offerings and other marketing activities and simplify report generation for analysis of marketing costs. The challenge was to integrate calculations into a Web-based system to allow the company to monitor its marketing activities accurately and efficiently and create an archive for current and historical information. LG Electronics Nordic AB worked with Explit AB to implement Oracle Database as a scalable platform for the company's cost control system in its marketing department and integrated different kinds of information with new Web applications on a single server via Oracle Application Express, a feature of Oracle Database.

whitepaper Live Webcast: Virtual Service Oriented Grids: Transforming the Enterprise2008-04-22 Intel
One of the most powerful features of computing grids is the capability of being able to identify and allocate resources needed to build and run an application on demand and in almost real time, without months of negotiation or waiting for the hardware procurement cycle to facilitate it.

While most discussions in the industry have been focused on the enhanced performance from grid computing in niche applications, the overlooked real payoff from combining grids with virtualization and service orientation will come in terms of a quantum jump in capability for business agility and flexibility.

With grid computing, three entities - data, storage, and processing - can be allocated independently and metered precisely to support most business goals. Thus, allowing a solution provider to put together a business application that best fit the goals of the application from anywhere in the world. This solution can be assembled from a combination of in-sourced and out-sourced components working seamlessly.

Join this live webcast with Q&A and featuring Enrique Castro-Leon, Enterprise and Data Center Architect and Technology strategist, Intel Corporation and Jackson He, Lead Architect, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel Corporation and hosted by James Hilliard of TechRepublic to learn how organizations can transform their enterprise via a virtual service oriented grids.

whitepaper Aerospace Fastener Group Upgrades System, Watches Scalability and Productivity Soar2008-03-12 Microsoft
LFC has a sister company that generates invoices for both companies. Information was being driven back and forth between the companies, and this was not a long-term solution. In addition, the company's shop order and inventory systems were based on an MS-DOS platform and were not scalable. Finally, the company's employees were not able to access their systems from off-site, which dropped productivity further. NetVision Consulting deployed Windows Server 2008 on two servers for LFC Industries. The quick deployment was managed by Windows Deployment Services. LFC has also found an advantage in using Microsoft SQL Server, which will allow them to build a new shop order program, as well as a new inventory program at both companies.

whitepaper Peta-Scale I/O With the Lustre File System2008-02-01 Sun Microsystems
This paper describes low-level infrastructure in the Lustre file system that addresses scalability in very large clusters. The features described deal with I/O and networking, lock management, recovery after failure, and other scalability-related issues. The Lustre file system first went into production in Spring 2003 on the Multiprogrammatic Capability Resource (MCR) cluster at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The MCR cluster was one of the largest clusters at that time with 1100 Linux compute nodes as Lustre clients. Since then, the Lustre file system has been deployed on larger systems, notably the Sandia Red Storm deployment, with approximately 25,000 liblustre clients, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Jaguar system, which is of similar scale and runs Lustre technology both with Client-Node Linux (CNL) and with Catamount.
