Response-Time Analysis Made Easy in Oracle Database 10g | 2006-10-11 01:00:17 | Oracle |
| Historically, in trying to achieve maximum database performance, Oracle DBAs and performance analysts have fought an uphill battle to obtain solid response time metrics for system as well as user session activity. The problem facing DBAs has always had two facets: first, determining exactly "Where" the database or user sessions have been spending their time; and second, determining the objective nature of the user experience. Fortunately, those Oracle DBAs who have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g will find major response-time enhancements that allow a much better picture to be presented about system and session-level response-time metrics. This paper will explore the use of some of the historical mechanisms at the system, session, and SQL levels. | |||

Ensure Exchange Availability with Transaction Replication | 2006-12-12 15:54:57 | Cemaphore Systems |
| Delivering greater than 99% uptime for Microsoft Exchange requires deployment of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, but which one is right for your organization?
Buying HA/DR solutions for Exchange is a bit like shopping for insurance. It's not something you expect to use daily, so you don't want to blow your whole budget on it. But when you do need it, you're going to want all the protection you can get just as soon as you can get it. This white paper explores HA/DR solutions and compares Exchange transaction and file-based replication, two of the most popular and cost-effective options available. Read this paper to learn about the efficiency and reliability of these solutions. |

Function Blocks for Fieldbus Diagnostics | 2006-09-22 | Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers |
| Increasingly, fieldbuses are used in a variety of applications as the end users make large investments on fieldbus installations. Therefore the availability of these fieldbuses is of paramount importance in smooth plant operation. Although the fieldbus standards specify the type and format of the diagnostics data, the extent, location and sequence of diagnostics data within a controller is entirely vendor dependent. As the number of differing makes of controllers increase in an installation, so does the problem of accessing fieldbus diagnostics data. This research work defines a unified framework for representing the fieldbus diagnostics data in the form of a data block, and develops diagnostic Function Blocks to provide the required diagnostics data at the controller and at higher levels.

New Generation NAS - Advanced File System Replication for Affordable Business Continuity and DR Solutions | 2006-09-20 16:09:36 | Agami Systems |
| Business continuity is fast becoming critically important to businesses. The challenge in maintaining business continuity needs to be addressed at two levels - local redundancy for continuous data protection and remote mirroring for disaster recovery. As a recent spate of natural disasters has shown, we need to plan ahead for disruptions rather than start patching up at the last moment. A key aspect of disaster recovery (DR) planning is duplicating business-critical data efficiently and storing it remotely at an offsite location with the objective of restoring it quickly should the need arise. Today's "always-on" business requires continuous data protection with an integrated disaster recovery plan. New generation NAS devices with advanced software features such as network-efficient file system replication with integrated snapshots offer businesses the benefits of business continuity and DR at a price that is hard to beat. New generation NAS devices enable planning for data backup by making the entire process fast, simple, reliable, efficient, and very inexpensive to own and operate. | |||
