whitepaper Open Source in the Next Computing Wave2009-01-09 Illuminata
Open source software has been both benefactor and beneficiary of the "Internet wave" of computing during which large-scale, network-connected computing architectures built from relatively standardized hardware and software components have came into their own. The Nineties may have been the years when small workgroup systems running operating systems such as NetWare and Windows NT arrived throughout the business world in a big way. But the Noughts have made distributed systems a core part of almost every datacenter.

whitepaper Rockford Replaces Veritas With CA's BrightStor Solutions0000-00-00 CA (Computer Associates)
Rockford Corporation, a world leader in high-end autosound equipment with distribution in 80 countries, had a problem. Its data backups performed using Veritas solutions were hanging or being corrupted at least once a week. With a data center in Tempe, Arizona, that serves locations in the U.S. and worldwide, backup software that is difficult to use and unstable creates a significant business problem. Rockford decided it was time for a change. After evaluating several industry-leading solutions in 2001, Rockford chose BrightStor Enterprise Backup from CA to replace Veritas solutions. In early 2003, Rockford adopted BrightStor ARCserve Backup for its NetWare environment and upgraded its BrightStor Enterprise Backup solution to take advantage of performance, management and usability enhancements.

whitepaper Management Solution for 9th-Generation Poweredge Servers Running Netware 6.52007-02-09 Dell
This paper outlines the reference architecture, step-by-step instructions on how to implement the architecture, and the support model for this configuration. The main goal of this architecture is to provide a method for the instrumented PowerEdge server and its internal storage to send SNMP alerts. The architecture separates the server from the storage and details instructions specific to each of the two subsystems. Although the information presented in this paper is not 9th-generation PowerEdge servers-specific, the architecture has been tested only on 9th-generation servers, thus it is supported only on these platforms.

whitepaper Realizing the Business Value of IP Convergence2005-02-01 IBM
While organizations that are already using converged voice and data networks tend to focus on the cost savings, there are a number of other, lesser-known benefits of convergence that enable companies to:
  • Transform business processes
  • Differentiate from their competition
  • Boost productivity
  • Increase customer retention
  • Improve functionality
This IBM white paper posits that most enterprises have yet to realize the full value of convergence and explains why the real promise of IP networks lies in converged applications. It goes on to explain how IP convergence can build real business value for today's busy contact centers.

whitepaper Understanding the OSI 7 Layer Model2000-07-01 International Technology Publishing
This document provides a full length explanation of the OSI 7 layer model including the role of each layer and of the stack. This model defines how applications running upon network-aware devices may communicate with each other. The model is generic and applies to all network types, not just TCP/IP, and all media types, not just Ethernet. The OSI model is a way of describing how different applications and protocols interact on network-aware devices. We explain the role of each layer and of the stack.
