Overcoming IP Telephony Performance Issues in a Converged Network | 2009-08-07 | Global Knowledge |
| When implementing Voice over IP (VoIP) onto a data network, you must ensure that the equipment capable of handling the additional load, and, more importantly, that the traffic will be properly classified, marked, and prioritized for optimal performance. Voice traffic is highly intolerant to delay, jitter, and packet loss, so it is critical to prioritize it over normal traffic. In this white paper, we discuss the application of Quality of Service (QoS) to networks with media flows such as voice and video. To take advantage of many modern advances in IP-based telephony, we must take into consideration several design and configuration factors before we can expect it to function properly.

Recession-Proof Your Service & Support Organization | 2009-01-01 | Citrix Online |
| With revenue growth uncertain, all areas of the enterprise will be asked to cut costs and streamline operations in 2009. Service and support revenues have become an economic engine for both software and hardware companies. But challenging economic times are forcing companies to streamline their operations and reduce costs.
This new SSPA White Paper explores how remote service and support technology is being leveraged to dramatically lower operational costs and increase revenue - despite the dismal economy. Download the paper to learn how remote service and support:

Is My DSL a Modeling or Programming Language? | 2008-10-15 | University of Maribor |
| It is often difficult to discern the differences between programming and modeling languages. As an example, the term "Domain-specific language" has been used almost interchangeably in academia and industry to represent both programming and modeling languages, which has caused subtle misconceptions. The borders between a modeling and programming language are somewhat vague and not defined crisply. This paper discusses the similarities and differences between modeling and programming languages, and offers some suggestions on how to better differentiate such languages. A list of criteria is presented for language classification, but it is suggested that a set of the criteria be used, rather than a single criterion. Several example domain-specific languages are used as case studies to motivate the discussion.

Advances in a DSL for Application Integration | 2008-09-09 | Universidad de Sevilla |
| Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) is currently one of the big challenges for Software Engineering. According to a recent report, for each dollar spent on developing an application, companies usually spend from 5 to 20 dollars to integrate it. This paper proposes a Domain Specific Language (DSL) for designing application integration solutions. It builds on the experience on two real-world integration projects.

Beyond Broadband - A Quiet Revolution | 2008-04-16 | Easynet Connect |
| The benefits of the Internet, both for businesses and the consumer are widely documented. When people talk about 'broadband', however, most are talking about Asymmetric DSL (ADSL), which is still essentially a consumer technology. In the business world, a new wave of Internet technology is creating a revolution of its own.

Do You Need a Broadband Remote Access Server?: Functionality and Trade-Offs of Using Smart DSLAMs and MSANs | 2008-02-01 | Juniper Networks |
| There are many misconceptions about the role of the DSL Forum's Broadband Network Gateway (BNG), better known as a Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) or Broadband Services Router (BSR). The BSR has evolved significantly from its original role of terminating PPPoX sessions. Proponents talk about enhanced subscriber management capabilities, while detractors claim that all needed functions can be done by a smart Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) or MSAN (Multiservice Access Node). There are several functions that must be performed to successfully support broadband traffic. This paper describes the key functions that may need to be implemented by the smart edge device, either the MSAN or the BSR.

How Cisco IT Provides Secure and Flexible Remote Access for Mobile Employees and Home Offices | 2007-11-20 | Cisco Systems |
| In August 2001 the Cisco Systems IT remote access group faced a crisis. Their primary high-speed remote access solution in the United States, based on DSL, was about to disappear. This crisis situation forced them to consider other options, and forced to accelerate the migration to a VPN solution. That single move has not only saved money, it's improved client service and client satisfaction, and paved the way for new services they couldn't have considered with the other remote access offerings. This case study discusses in detail the business advantages to Cisco of a robust remote access solution like the Internet-based VPN, and then details the background, service deployment issues, support issues, cost savings, and other benefits of the VPN migration.

Service Selection Gateway | 2007-11-18 | Cisco Systems |
| Service Selection Gateway (SSG) is a switching solution for service providers who offer intranet, extranet, and Internet connections to subscribers using broadband access technology such as Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL), cable modems, or wireless to allow simultaneous access to network services. SSG works in conjunction with the Cisco Service Selection Dashboard (SSD) or its successor product, the Cisco Subscriber Edge Services Manager (SESM). Together with the SESM or SSD, SSG provides subscriber authentication, service selection, and service connection capabilities to subscribers of Internet services. Subscribers interact with an SESM or SSD web application using a standard Internet browser. This paper describes the Service Selection Gateway feature in Cisco IOS Releases 12.2(4)B and 12.2(8)T.

Financial Data Protected Despite Radio Access | 2007-11-12 | |
| Centrally stored customer data is accessed by field staff, consultants and telecommuters as well as Datev information centres distributed across Germany - approximately 800 external employees in total. Until recently they were only able to access the company network via ISDN lines. Because they were often connected to head office for hours, they caused high online costs. Datev found a solution to this problem in the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL): the DSL signal is additionally fed to the copper cable of the ISDN line. With a flat rate or volume billing, dial-in costs far less than internet access via ISDN.

Explore Model-Driven Development (MDD) and Related Approaches: Applying Domain-Specific Modeling to Model-Driven Architecture | 2007-09-18 | IBM |
| In this paper, use Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) and Graphical Modeling Framework (GMF) technologies to produce domain-specific modeling tooling aids for domain-specific languages. Learn the value of defining a domain-specific language, explore basic concepts and different approaches to modeling, and get tips on creating a good metamodel. In architecture design and software engineering, one needs a clear comprehension of the domain for the architecture and to be able to effectively communicate that to other people. One can use various techniques and tools to approach this challenge, such as using a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) and Domain-Specific Modeling (DSM). DSM acts as the front end of DSL, allowing the user to express constructs through a visual representation.
