10-Gigabit Ethernet - The Next Generation Network Infrastructure | 2008-01-24 | Dell EqualLogic |
| Since any opportunity to improve performance is a plus for IT administrators, the dawning of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GigE) is good news. Questions regarding costs, benefits, cabling, and timing are top of mind as administrators try to plan technology upgrades and new network deployments.
Rest assured that if you have not already implemented 10-GigE, you're not late -- while some organizations have begun to use it, cabling upgrades will be required to drive broader deployment. Tags: IT Infrastructure, LAN - WAN |

Minneapolis Airport Hangar Operator Reduces Insurance Claims With D-Link IP Surveillance Solution | 2007-12-28 | D-Link |
| In order to keep an eye on events within the hangars, activities around the hangars, and employees that handle customer aircraft, Reason's client needed a flexible IP surveillance system. Reason's client wanted to eliminate their analog equipment and replace it with digital equipment that could be accessed by multiple people within their organization, including quality managers, upper management and line personnel. Reason Computer, Inc. recommended D-Link equipment for the installation. They initially deployed several D-Link DCS-3220 10/100TX Fast Ethernet 2-Way Audio Internet Cameras in one of the hangars as a trial.

OC-192c/STM-64c and 10 Gigabit Ethernet WAN PHY | 2007-08-01 | Force10 Networks |
| The introduction of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) WAN PHY into the IP/Ethernet networking community has led to confusion over the applicability between 10 GbE WAN PHY and OC-192c/STM-64 interfaces. Both of these interfaces support transmission at 9.6 Gbps, support SONET/SDH framing, and can be connected to SONET/SDH ADM or DWDM gear. So what is the difference? The answer can be boiled down to two things: L2/L3 protocol support, and link diagnostic and maintenance capabilities.

Performance Evaluation of Switched Ethernet as Communication Media in Controller Networks | 2007-07-04 | Technical University of Sofia |
| The paper presents a simulation scenario for performance evaluation of switched Ethernet as communication media in controller networks. Ethernet is the most accepted Local Area Network technology, characterized with low price and deployment robustness. Using Ethernet instead of custom industrial communication protocol can ease the development of applications. The introduction of Fast Ethernet and micro-segmentation eliminates some of the biggest problems of using Ethernet in controller networks. This also enables integration of controller networks with the enterprise and global networks. The use of queue management discipline shows a lot of possibilities for achieving requirements for different type of services. The evaluation is by means of simulation analysis, using network simulator - NS2 as a tool.

About the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Standard | 2007-07-01 | Force10 Networks |
| 10 GbE Physical layer specifications (PHY) and supported media and reaches, as defined in IEEE 802.3 2005. In Ethernet standards, the different optical and copper media are known as types of physical media-dependent interfaces (PMDs). The 10 GbE MAC operates at 10 Gbps at its service interface (towards PHY) and rate-adapts between MAC PHY layers to accommodate slightly different LAN PHY and WAN PHY data rates by adjusting inter-packet gaps (IPGs). The rate adaptation mechanism is known as open loop control.

NETGEAR Builds Mobile Learning Environment for the University of Canberra | 0000-00-00 | Netgear |
| The University of Canberra has 1,200 staff and 10,000 students, with ninety countries represented by its student body. The challenge for the University of Canberra was to implement an IT framework which supported the seamless interaction of wired and wireless solutions, improved bandwidth capabilities and provided sufficient levels of secure wireless coverage across the campus. Due to the networking provider's ability to exceed the identified criteria, the University of Canberra selected NETGEAR, along with their preferred network integration reseller ASI Solutions, as its partner to plan and implement the required upgrades.

Copper and Glass: Securing the Foundation of your 10 Gigabit Datacenter | 2007-03-01 | Fluke Networks |
| How much time and money would you save if you could assure the performance of your 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networkÃÂbefore you turned up service? How much confidence would you gain by knowing your 10-gigabit cabling was installed according to standards?
As networking technologies evolve to meet greater bandwidth requirements, the physical layer of the network must evolve and be certified to support the new 10GBASE-T standard and a host of 10GBASE-fiber standards. This white paper from Fluke Networks describes the changes that 10 gigabit Ethernet creates for the cabling infrastructure and outlines the steps you can take to ensure the success of your 10GbE network.
