Chesapeake Energy Fuels Growth With Strategic Focus on Human Capital | 2008-06-01 | Oracle |
| Chesapeake has been hiring at a brisk pace over the last three years. More than 1,300 are employed in Chesapeake's geoscience, land and engineering departments, of which, 70% are degreed professionals. Chesapeake locate and tap its natural gas reserves. Finding and retaining skilled workers remains as challenging as ever. The industry-wide resurgence in drilling activity came at a time when the country was graduating fewer geoscientists and engineers than in years past. As a result, companies are finding it tougher to fill openings and many are retooling their pay packages to match the competition. The new system, built with Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise human capital management software, replaced five HR systems - some of them outsourced - spread across several business units.

BBK Adopts Centralized Management Platform to Cut Workflows by Half, Inventory by One-Third | 2008-06-01 | Oracle |
| BBK previously maintained one system for managing manufacturing processes and another for managing finance. The business also ran more than 30 subsystems. The lack of integration between the systems meant information could not be readily shared and infrastructure not easily upgraded. This hindered BBK's ability to realize its management requirements and support growth. In July 2007, BBK went live on an Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system developed and implemented with help from Oracle Certified Advantage Partner AdvancedTEK International. BBK also reformed business processes to comply with best practice guidelines. As a result, the company cut the number of workflows by half and reduced inventory by one-third, leading to greater efficiencies and lower costs.

Sports Retailer Deploys Domain Controllers in Stores to Keep Registers Ringing | 2008-06-01 | Microsoft |
| A large a specialty retailer in the United States with approximately 450 stores wanted to update its older MS-DOS - based Point-Of-Sale (POS) application with a next-generation POS program from NCR. However, the new software required user authentication over the Wide Area Network (WAN) using domain controllers at headquarters. A big concern arose: if the WAN went down, stores couldn't ring up sales. The retailer found its answer with the Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC) technology in the Windows Server 2008 operating system. Using RODCs, the retailer will be able to place a security-enhanced domain controller in each store so that registers can continue to ring even in the event of a WAN outage.
