SUSE Linux Point of Service IBM JavaPOS Integration in SLEPOS | 2009-06-30 | Novell |
| This paper describes by way of example the integration of IBM JavaPOS for SLE11 (SUSE Linux Enterprise 11) using an IBM SurePOS 4800-722 cash register system and an IBM4610-T13 POS printer, connected through RS-485 interface. Furthermore it guides how to run and use the JavaPOS test program provided by IBM, the POS Control Center. JavaPOS (short form "Java for Point of Sale Devices"), is a standard for interfacing Point of Sale (POS) software, written in Java, with specialized POS hardware peripherals typical used in retail or banking system environments. The advantages of JavaPOS are reduced costs for POS terminals, platform independence, and reduced administrative costs to manage the cash register systems.

Choosing a Vendor: 8 Key Points to Consider When You Need to Outsource | 2009-06-05 | SkillSoft |
| Even marketing departments at large companies will need to outsource some functions to firms who are more creative and resourceful in specific
areas. Most of the time, this is a win-win: you complete projects that your department doesn't have the capacity to do while creating a
relationship from which you can learn new trends, technologies, and niches in the industry. However, outsourcing can also come at a price: more palpable risks that the confidentiality of your business data could be breached, less control over the finished product, and higher costs. The four marketing executives featured in this ExecBlueprint discuss how their departments
have benefited in their work with vendors to complete more complex and creative projects faster and, in some cases, cheaper. Their primary advice? Select the vendor carefully: ask for references, price quotes, and work samples  and try out first on small projects. Stay in touch frequently and pay on time. Finaly, don't get complacent: seek other bids, keep contract
periods short, and assess performance to ensure you're continuing to receive your vendor's best price and efforts.

Ramco Systems Case Study: DE Controls | 2009-06-01 | Ramco Systems |
| DE Controls was using a standalone system; this made it difficult to have real-time visibility of the overall inventory (especially finished goods). As the inventory was manually maintained it was difficult to track the stocks that were returned from various regions. Valuation of stock on a real-time basis for raw materials and finished goods was also not possible. DE Controls required a comprehensive and integrated online solution, which would address the above challenges and aid them in having real-time visibility of the inventory across locations; a solution which would enable the management to track the supply chain management process and maintain profitability margin for all the sales order traded across the regions. They found Ramco OnDemand ERP to be an ideal fit that would help them to address their challenges and aid growth.

Wireless POS Makes Your Business More Efficient | 2009-06-01 | VST |
| The retail and hospitality industry is quickly moving towards wireless networking, but hopefully, this time around the industry learns from its previous mistakes. Computerized POS systems were heralded as the next great thing for the industry, and history has proven that assessment to be correct. With the more powerful systems, came more credit card theft because the storage of sensitive data opens the door for criminals to take advantage of insecure systems. PCI-DSS is industry's attempt to react to the problem by helping merchants secure their environments. The standard even addresses many of the new technologies that the restaurants will be adopting in the near future.
