Growing Yogurt Chain Quintuples Sales Speed, Cuts Payroll, and Keeps More Cash in the Till | 2008-06-19 | Microsoft |
| Rich Ferraro brought a background in software and Information Technology (IT) to his first retail effort. When he opened Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt in Simi Valley, California, he knew technology would increase efficiency, cut costs, and increases his bottom line. As Golden Spoon's exceptional tastes and rotating flavors packed stores with more than 1,000 customers a day, Ferraro saw that long lines and bottlenecks at his Electronic Cash Registers (ECRs) annoyed and even scared off some customers. He knew ECRs' inadequate security contributed to cash in the tills seldom matching cash sales reports. And managers didn't love spending an hour a day tallying and transposing totals into Golden Spoon forms. But Ferraro's concern was more far-reaching.

Improve Branch Office Admin with Flexible Server Solution | 2008-06-04 | Microsoft |
| Paul Smith, a global fashion designer, wanted to improve management of its remote infrastructure. A small IT team in England centrally managed the company's entire infrastructure, including distant branch offices. Without local IT support, branch offices could be difficult to manage. Further, local systems could place the whole network at risk if they became compromised. To improve management and stability, Paul Smith is implementing the Server Core installation option of Windows Server® 2008. By taking advantage of hardened services and installing only the server roles required at each location, Paul Smith is reducing risk. With fewer components running on each server, the network will be less vulnerable to attack and software maintenance will be easier. Finally, Paul Smith can implement a remote infrastructure with Windows Server 2008 that is more strategically designed and managed.

BBK Adopts Centralized Management Platform to Cut Workflows by Half, Inventory by One-Third | 2008-06-01 | Oracle |
| BBK previously maintained one system for managing manufacturing processes and another for managing finance. The business also ran more than 30 subsystems. The lack of integration between the systems meant information could not be readily shared and infrastructure not easily upgraded. This hindered BBK's ability to realize its management requirements and support growth. In July 2007, BBK went live on an Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system developed and implemented with help from Oracle Certified Advantage Partner AdvancedTEK International. BBK also reformed business processes to comply with best practice guidelines. As a result, the company cut the number of workflows by half and reduced inventory by one-third, leading to greater efficiencies and lower costs.

Sports Retailer Deploys Domain Controllers in Stores to Keep Registers Ringing | 2008-06-01 | Microsoft |
| A large a specialty retailer in the United States with approximately 450 stores wanted to update its older MS-DOS - based Point-Of-Sale (POS) application with a next-generation POS program from NCR. However, the new software required user authentication over the Wide Area Network (WAN) using domain controllers at headquarters. A big concern arose: if the WAN went down, stores couldn't ring up sales. The retailer found its answer with the Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC) technology in the Windows Server 2008 operating system. Using RODCs, the retailer will be able to place a security-enhanced domain controller in each store so that registers can continue to ring even in the event of a WAN outage.

RedPrairie's Warehouse Management/HF Supports Strong Growth and Improves Productivity in Furniture Retailer's Distribution Center | 2008-05-29 | RedPrairie |
| The largest furniture retailer in Wisconsin, Steinhafels needed to improve inventory accuracy which is often a driving factor in deciding to implement a WMS. Steinhafels previously used GERS/Escalate Radio Frequency (RF) module that required the use of two scanners and did not include check-string functionality, a process that assigns random numbers to locations guaranteeing that the user is putting product away in the correct location. Steinhafels deployed RedPrairie's Warehouse Management/HF which now runs their expanded distribution operation and manages all aspects of distribution from the second a product is received until it is safely tucked away in the customer's home.

| Of late, El Dorado had more than $115 million in sales and moved 440,000 pieces of furniture through its distribution center. With so much merchandise on the move, the company's existing warehouse management system simply couldn't keep up. Their previous system was a batch barcode system used only for receiving, so they did a lot of work by hand and the paper trail was enormous. El Dorado deployed Warehouse Management/HF from RedPrairie which now manages El Dorado's entire warehouse operation, including putaways, picks, customer pickups, relocations, and damaged merchandise. The system determines the location of the needed merchandise and directs forklift operators to the correct location.
