whitepaper The Future of School2008-09-01 Cisco Systems
In this paper, the Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG) describes a vision of "The future of school" in a period of dramatic change, enabled and often accelerated by powerful new tools of communication and collaboration. Key dimensions of wider education system reform include attracting and developing high-quality teachers; developing holistic curricula and associated assessment frameworks that test the ability to meet the requirements of a global, modern society and a robust economy; and creating practices and regimes that improve processes and outcomes while developing high-quality system leadership. A growing emphasis on public accountability for results and performance - across education systems and within individual schools - is an integral part of extensive, and sometimes contentious, change.

whitepaper Catalyzing Positive Change in Education: The Four Pillars - Creating a Foundation That Helps Education Build for the Future2008-09-01 SAS Institute
Quality education is essential. This simple personal, economic and societal truism has become a rallying cry for a host of innovations, initiatives and movements. Indeed, in the span of little over a century, education has moved from the purview of the elite or connected to a basic human right, community necessity, and workforce essential and national imperative. In this context, it's not surprising that the highly trafficked "Shift Happens" YouTube video originally put together for a K-12 school district's staff development day - caused such a stir. The premise of the presentation is that when it comes to education and economic possibilities size and focus matter.

whitepaper What's NEXT in K-12 Collaboration and Productivity2008-04-20 e.Republic
Collaboration and distance learning technology feature low-cost implementation and operation, compared to outsourced audio-conferencing services. Additional features are also available at a reduced cost, such as audio, visual, application sharing, secure instant messaging and intelligent presence management, which displays contact list and whether or not those contacts are available. The need for districts to deploy collaboration and distance learning technology is evident. Because of varying schedules and locations, district administrators have difficulty bringing together staff members for meetings. Home-schooled, sick or traveling students need a way to keep up-to-date with class work. Teachers need better professional development options and students need more distance learning options.

whitepaper Development of an Interactive e-Learning Management System (e-LMS) for Tanzanian Secondary Schools2008-04-16 Blekinge Institute of Technology
e-learning, as defined to be the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for supporting the educational processes, has motivated Tanzania to apply ICT in its education system. Tanzania secondary schools in rural areas are geographically and socially isolated. Rural Tanzania secondary schools face a number of problems including ways in getting learning materials, as well as inadequacy in qualified teachers. The impact of these problems is poor performance in National Examinations. This poor performance however is highly noted in science and mathematics subjects. The problem in getting learning materials can be reduced by employing ICT in secondary school education system. This paper develops an interactive e-Learning Management System (e-LMS) to be used by Tanzanian secondary schools.
