Dell Helps Cy-Fair College Deconstruct the Stale Lecture Hall | 2007-01-01 | Dell |
| Cy-Fair College is a community college with a fresh approach to learning. From student and faculty client systems to back-end server infrastructure, Cy-Fair needed easy-to-use and simple-to-maintain technology solutions so that the IT team can stay focused on supporting creative, new learning models rather than wasting time and resources on basic operations. A SCORM Thin Client Architecture for E-Learning Systems Based on Web Services | 2007-01-01 | Idea Group |
| This paper proposes an architecture of e-learning systems characterized by the use of Web services and a suitable middleware component. These technical infrastructures allow the user to extend the system with new services as well as to integrate and reuse heterogeneous software e-learning components. Moreover, they let one better support the "Anytime and anywhere" learning paradigm. As a matter of fact, the proposal provides an implementation of the run-time environment suggested in the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) to trace learning processes, which is also suitable for mobile learning.

Wireless Technologies and e-Learning: Bridging the Digital Divide | 2006-12-01 | Intel |
| Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and e-Learning platforms provide alternative channels for improving the quality of education and extending its reach to broader audiences. A significant challenge in realizing the full promise of ICT worldwide has been lack of access, particularly in developing countries and in rural communities. This limitation has created a "Digital divide" - a gap between those able to benefit from digital technology and those who cannot. To reach new audiences and extend the benefits of digital technology to previously unreachable populations, Intel Innovation Centre is developing an array of ICT strategies as well as e-Learning programs using wireless technologies.

Position Paper on Use of DIBELS for Diverse Learners | 2006-11-16 | |
| DIBELS are appropriate for all students for whom a goal is learning to read in English with a few exceptions: a) students who are deaf; b) students who have fluency-based speech disabilities, e.g., stuttering, oral apraxia; c) students who are learning to read in a language other than English; d) students with severe disabilities. Students who are deaf. DIBELS were developed based on the research examining the process of learning to read for hearing students. For most students who are deaf, the ability to use phonological representations of letters is seriously compromised (Leybaert & Charlier, 1996; Moores, 1996); therefore the core competencies assessed by DIBELS, phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle, may not apply for students who are deaf and are learning to read.

Technical University Delivers New Opportunities for Online Learning | 0000-00-00 | Microsoft |
| Astrakhan State Technical University (ASTU) offers professional training programmes to 10,000 graduate and post-graduate students in Astrakhan, Russia. During the last few years, the university has developed online learning resources, but these could no longer meet the requirements of professors or students effectively. Using the previous system, it was difficult to publish tests and learning materials or to monitor students' progress effectively. To address these issues, ASTU deployed the Microsoft Learning Gateway. This enhances communications between professors and students, supports self-learning and self-testing, and helps to monitor students' academic achievements. Multi-media learning resources and tests are uploaded to the system quickly and students can access materials using a simple, intuitive interface.
