| Maricopa County, Arizona, needed to make training easily available for its 12,000 employees in 45 departments dispersed throughout the greater Phoenix area. Maricopa's paper-based registration was time-consuming, its tracking of coursework and exams inconsistent, and employees' transcripts often lagged behind their latest certification. The county needed consistent training for all employees and information for the professionals who continually refine and optimize employee programs. Maricopa County's desire to provide the highest possible standards in public service and to ease the administrative overhead of training led it to SumTotal's Learning Management System (LMS) for a comprehensive online learning environment. | |||

SumTotal Systems Case Study: Symbol Technologies | 2006-06-29 04:49:36 | SumTotal Systems |
| To become more competitive, Symbol Technologies started moving away from its barcode product line, which had become a commodity business, and into mobility products. These products were much more complex, requiring new selling and implementation skill sets for the company's channel partners. Without an infrastructure, Symbol could not provide certifications, other than in a hands-on, proctored environment. Symbol needed a way to bring its partners up-to-speed on the new product line, as well as to keep them current on information about thousands of its other products. Symbol deployed the SumTotal Enterprise Suite, as Symbol University, to support the PartnerSelect Program worldwide as well as to support learners within Symbol and a decade's worth of transcripts and data. | |||

| Like many colleges and universities, Quinnipiac has a heightened demand for technology in the classroom. But unlike many other universities, faculty members at Quinnipiac have been some of the earliest champions for technology. Quinnipiac determined that the one credit computer course it had been offering freshmen since 1980 - a course meant to provide students with basic presentation skills and word processing tools needed for the work expected at Quinnipiac - wasn't serving its purpose. Building Internet Skills in Rural Colorado | 2006-06-23 01:00:29 | Cisco Systems |
| In 1995, there was little or no Internet infrastructure in most parts of Southeastern Colorado. But Otero Junior College helped change all that. Situated among cattle ranching and row crop irrigated farming in the Arkansas River Valley, Otero took the initiative to help build an Internet infrastructure to connect the surrounding rural communities. The college also adopted a new mission - to build a local workforce of highly-skilled IT professionals. The college adopted the Cisco Networking Academy Program in 1998, and became the first Academy in the state. |
