How the U.S. Border Patrol Employs WAVE Unified Communications Software to Deny Access to Illegal Immigrants, Drug Traffickers and Terrorists | 2009-01-01 | Twisted Pair Solutions |
| The U.S.-Mexico border is the most frequently crossed - both legally and illegally - international border in the world. Unfortunately, Border Patrol communications systems generally fell short of capabilities deemed vital. They lacked any inherent interoperability and portions of the existing hardware had become obsolete, making repairs difficult and expansion impossible. Alongside a process of upgrading field radios, Tucson Sector was pursuing a new IP telephony system. In light of the restrictive circumstances and the crucial need for interagency communications in securing America's borders, Nortel Government Solutions, a Certified WAVE Integrator, presented a WAVE-based system as the only solution that could deliver.

How Orlando Sanford International Airport Deployed an Innovative WAVEPowered IP Crash Phone System | 2009-01-01 | Twisted Pair Solutions |
| First and foremost, SAA needed a crash phone system that offered near infallible reliability. As a close second, they desired a system that they could completely manage and maintain using responsive, cost-effective in-house personnel, and ideally, existing hardware. And obviously, given the state of their existing crash phone, they needed a solution that could be implemented in a relatively short period of time. SAA opted for an innovative new IP crash phone solution presented by VoiceInterop of Boca Raton, Florida. VoiceInterop, whose crash phone technology is powered by WAVE unified communications software from industry leader Twisted Pair Solutions, provides voice and video interoperability solutions for homeland security, aviation, mass transit, utilities and commercial B2B applications.

A Framework for Sustainable Port Security | 2004-12-21 | George Washington University |
| As the United States attempts to improve the security of the homeland, the thousands of vessels, millions of containers, and millions of passengers entering the country each year have been identified as major sources of vulnerability. This paper is based on the premise that a port is best analyzed as a complex system consisting of a set of loosely coupled economic systems. The paper demonstrates that by using a risk management approach sets of potentially effective security interventions that intervene at all points in the event chain can be identified.

An Integrating Framework for Modeling and Simulation for Emergency Response | 2004-09-14 | National Institute of Standards and Technology |
| A number of modeling and simulation tools have been developed and more are being developed for emergency response applications. The tools do not attempt to address the overall emergency incident response. A set of tools that can help develop and evaluate coordination among plans for multiple aspects of the response can significantly improve the response capabilities. These tools need to be integrated together to reduce the time and effort for their use. This paper describes a framework that is proposed to ensure that modeling and simulation tools can be systematically integrated together to address the overall response.

Can Biometrics Help the Army Solve an Identity Crisis? | 0000-00-00 | RAND |
| The Army is having an identity crisis, and it affects both its wartime and peacetime operations. Simply put, the Army needs to ensure that the right people, and only the right people-can get access to its information systems, its weapons, and its many databases that serve the Army community. Biometrics-that is, physical characteristics or personal traits that can be measured quickly-may offer a solution. But using biometrics raises some knotty legal, ethical, and sociological issues-for example, how to safeguard biometric information so it cannot be used for other, possibly nefarious, purposes.
