Hey, You, Get Off of My Cloud: Exploring Information Leakage in Third-Party Compute Clouds | 2009-11-13 | Association for Computing Machinery |
| Third-party cloud computing represents the promise of out-sourcing as applied to computation. Services, such as Microsoft's Azure and Amazon's EC2, allow users to instantiate Virtual Machines (VMs) on demand and thus purchase precisely the capacity they require when they require it. In turn, the use of virtualization allows third-party cloud providers to maximize the utilization of their sunken capital costs by multiplexing many customer VMs across a shared physical infrastructure.

These applications offer an array of benefits, including reduced traffic congestion, better services at lower cost and decreased emissions. But successful deployment of ITS requires the right communication solution - selected to meet specific needs for reliability, scalability, interoperability with existing systems and easy management. As an experienced partner in ITS deployments, Alcatel-Lucent offers an overview of key issues to consider when implementing a communications network for ITS applications - along with case studies illustrating their financial benefits.

Preparedness and the Force of Law | 2007-10-20 | High Alert |
| It is a long held and accepted legal tenet that a Presidential Executive Order has the force of law and is for all intent and purpose "the law of the land." Such Executive Orders have been issued from time to time by Presidents to meet specific national needs or executive prerogative. On January 29, 2000, a memorandum from the Counsel to the President presented the legal argument that a Presidential Directive had the same legal effectiveness as an Executive Order.
