Overview

When discussing information security, the phrase 'defense in depth' describes the principle of not depending upon one mechanism or practice to secure a system. With messaging security, you must also think in terms of 'breadth' as well to provide sufficient protection. As more services are provided on the Internet, from email and instant messaging to IP telephony and Web video conferencing, you create more potential vulnerabilities that can be exploited by attackers. By combining technologies for messaging defense along with security management practices, you can help ensure malicious content stays out of your organization's network while confidential information remains intact.
