Developer of Trading Software Safeguards Its Network With Enhanced Security | 2008-03-22 | Microsoft |
| Trading Technologies wanted to implement Microsoft Network Access Protection (NAP) as part of a solution using compliance requirements to assess the security risk posed by a computer or device attempting to connect to its corporate network. The company also wanted to use NAP to control network remote access by mobile devices that may become non-compliant with corporate policies. Trading Technologies deployed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (64-bit version) on one server through a new, manual installation rather than an upgrade. It was deployed on hardware infrastructure that consisted of an IBM BladeCenter LS21 server, connected to a Hitachi AMS 1000 storage system using a QLogic 2462S host bus adapter for connectivity.

Nonprofit MADD Embraces New Server Virtualization and Boosts Remote Access | 2008-03-06 | Microsoft |
| Irving, Texas-based Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) provides educational programs, outreach, and activities designed to stop drunk driving, support the victims of drunk driving, and prevent underage drinking. MADD had remote access issues and needed a solution that would provide anti-virus checking at the gateway before allowing access to the network, as well as an SSL VPN solution. MADD ideally needed a new operating system that would support platforms across the line, from application publishing to Web services, portals, system integration, and prescriptive guidance. After considering Linux, UNIX, and Sun Microsystem solutions, NetVision chose Windows Server 2008 to test on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) ProLiant DL380 server featuring multi-core Intel Xeon processors.

Educational System Cuts Spam, Millions in Costs, With Hosted E-Mail Filtering Solution | 2008-03-01 | Microsoft |
| The Kentucky Department of Education manages the public educational system for the state's 174 school districts. An internal IT services group, the Office of Education Technology (OET), oversees the schools' Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 e-mail environment, which has more than 750,000 mailboxes. That environment was plagued with a growing spam problem, which slowed down the system and resulted in lost time and productivity for students, teachers, and IT administrators. To fix the problem, OET deployed a hosted spam-filtering solution from Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services. Since then, the department has seen improved protection against spam while realizing millions of dollars in savings related to e-mail management costs. The department's solution has also restored lost instructional and administrative time, and empowered individual school districts with better e-mail management tools.
