For fifty years, MedicAlert has helped save lives by providing emergency responders and healthcare practitioners. However, with the rise of HIPAA mandates and other standards from similar global regulatory bodies, MedicAlert decided it could no longer preserve that privacy with limited homegrown security technology. In order to provide extended member services, as well as improve internal efficiency and productivity, MedicAlert officials began a search for an enterprise-class security software solution. MedicAlert implemented the CA Identity & Access Management solution that delivered the reliable and accountable security features that MedicAlert's critical and sensitive operations required.

whitepaper Developer of Trading Software Safeguards Its Network With Enhanced Security2008-03-22 Microsoft
Trading Technologies wanted to implement Microsoft Network Access Protection (NAP) as part of a solution using compliance requirements to assess the security risk posed by a computer or device attempting to connect to its corporate network. The company also wanted to use NAP to control network remote access by mobile devices that may become non-compliant with corporate policies. Trading Technologies deployed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (64-bit version) on one server through a new, manual installation rather than an upgrade. It was deployed on hardware infrastructure that consisted of an IBM BladeCenter LS21 server, connected to a Hitachi AMS 1000 storage system using a QLogic 2462S host bus adapter for connectivity.

whitepaper Nonprofit MADD Embraces New Server Virtualization and Boosts Remote Access2008-03-06 Microsoft
Irving, Texas-based Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) provides educational programs, outreach, and activities designed to stop drunk driving, support the victims of drunk driving, and prevent underage drinking. MADD had remote access issues and needed a solution that would provide anti-virus checking at the gateway before allowing access to the network, as well as an SSL VPN solution. MADD ideally needed a new operating system that would support platforms across the line, from application publishing to Web services, portals, system integration, and prescriptive guidance. whitepaper Educational System Cuts Spam, Millions in Costs, With Hosted E-Mail Filtering Solution2008-03-01 Microsoft
The Kentucky Department of Education manages the public educational system for the state's 174 school districts. An internal IT services group, the Office of Education Technology (OET), oversees the schools' Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 e-mail environment, which has more than 750,000 mailboxes. That environment was plagued with a growing spam problem, which slowed down the system and resulted in lost time and productivity for students, teachers, and IT administrators. To fix the problem, OET deployed a hosted spam-filtering solution from Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services. Since then, the department has seen improved protection against spam while realizing millions of dollars in savings related to e-mail management costs. The department's solution has also restored lost instructional and administrative time, and empowered individual school districts with better e-mail management tools.

whitepaper Petroleum Company Strengthens Security With Network Access Protection Solution2008-02-01 Microsoft
Petron Corporation, a petroleum refining and distribution company, wanted to reduce its network's exposure to security risks. The client devices that its mobile work force used were a chronic source of viruses because they often picked up malicious software from other systems. However, Petron was unable to verify the health of those devices before granting them network access. To improve security, Petron deployed Windows Server 2008 with Network Access Protection. Now Petron employees can connect more securely, and the healthier network is easier to manage. IT administrators have more time for other projects that further improve and protect Petron's IT environment, including the implementation of Microsoft Forefront Client Security and Forefront Security for SharePoint.

whitepaper Healthcare IT Alliance Immunizes Networks Against Rogue Access2008-02-01 Microsoft
The South West Alliance of Rural Health (SWARH) is a joint venture of public health agencies in South-Western Victoria, Australia. It provides a region-wide IP network that carries voice, video, and data services. Its clients use a diverse range of hardware governed by SWARH ICT standards, although SWARH has no direct ability to enforce those standards. SWARH was concerned that if an unauthorized person plugged a computer into a network port at any of its 147 sites, they might gain unfettered access. However, installing secure switches at client sites would have been prohibitively expensive. Instead, in February 2008 SWARH began implementing the Network Access Protection feature of Windows Server 2008. SWARH gained the ability to enforce computer health policies and protect its network from malware.
