Protecting the Security of Education Records | 2009-10-10 | DigiCert |
| Academic and administrative computing systems used to be more isolated - either intentionally for security reasons or as a result of limited interconnectivity with other computers - but today it seems that nearly any information that an administrator, teacher, student or parent might need can be obtained through a network connection. Course materials are presented and students submit their assignments via the Internet, school lunch accounts and student grades can be accessed by parents' online and administrative paperwork and other information is shared among a variety of systems and people in K-12 and higher education. The Internet is a great way to communicate, but it introduces security threats that did not threaten walled-off systems of the last century.

Contingency Access to Enterprise Encrypted Data | 2009-10-07 | PKWare |
| This paper discusses an example where uncontrolled encryption can be harmful to an organization. Contingency keys provide a mechanism by which an organization can keep control of the data within the enterprise. It looks at some common use cases for encryption and how contingency keys can be incorporated into those scenarios with little or no impact to the operation. Contingency keys in operation have no platform boundaries or restrictions. It is possible for an enterprise to achieve contingency access to data even when the end-user is employing password-based encryption, because the contingency key is still included in the encryption operation. | |||

Overcoming the Obstacles: Creating Cooperative Partnerships in Securing the Exchange of Data | 2009-10-07 | PKWare |
| Best practices in today's marketplace dictate that data entrusted to affiliates within a data-exchange process should be protected as it is transmitted, wherever it resides. However, some parties are more committed to securing information than others. This creates a problem that security-minded companies, typically the primary enterprise within the data-exchange group, have been struggling with for years - how to control the security of data at the endpoints in the data-exchange.

A Survey of BGP Security Issues and Solutions | 2009-10-03 | Princeton University |
| As the Internet's de facto interdomain routing protocol, the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is the glue that holds the disparate parts of the Internet together. A major limitation of BGP is its failure to adequately address security. Recent high-profile outages and security analyses clearly indicate that the Internet routing infrastructure is highly vulnerable. Moreover, the design of BGP and the ubiquity of its deployment have frustrated past efforts at securing interdomain routing. This paper considers the current vulnerabilities of the interdomain routing system and surveys both research and standardization efforts relating to BGP security. The paper explores the limitations and advantages of proposed security extensions to BGP, and explains why no solution has yet struck an adequate balance between comprehensive security and deployment cost. | |||

Configuring the Relay Server With Apache Using SSL | 2009-10-02 | iAnywhere Solutions |
| Secure data transmission and data availability are integral components of corporate information systems in today's wireless and occasionally connected environments. The need for data security is at an all time high as data breaches and sensitive information thefts are becoming a common occurrence, and combined with the demand for always available data, corporate data systems are being pushed to new limits. MobiLink already provides a highly scalable session-based synchronization system that allows bidirectional data transfer between a main database, called the consolidated database, and many remote databases. The consolidated database can be one of several ODBC-compliant databases, including SQL Anywhere, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and IBM DB2 (Mainframe).

Mitigation of SAP Authorization Risks | 2009-10-02 | SECUDE |
| SAP ERP systems are the core of many medium and large businesses these days. These systems administer Finance, Payroll, Customer Relationship Management, Human Resources and so on. Control of these systems is handled by a concept called SAP Authorizations (also referred to as authorizations or authorization objects). These authorizations establish what are referred to as roles. Roles determine exactly what permissions a given user has in a SAP system. It is a popular opinion amongst SAP experts that defining and maintaining authorizations is one of the largest and most complex tasks of a SAP system implementation. When authorizations are not properly managed, SAP security suffers. Instead of system being secured like a solid wall, it is more like a slice of Swiss cheese.
