whitepaper Configuring the Relay Server With Apache Using SSL2009-10-02 iAnywhere Solutions
Secure data transmission and data availability are integral components of corporate information systems in today's wireless and occasionally connected environments. The need for data security is at an all time high as data breaches and sensitive information thefts are becoming a common occurrence, and combined with the demand for always available data, corporate data systems are being pushed to new limits. MobiLink already provides a highly scalable session-based synchronization system that allows bidirectional data transfer between a main database, called the consolidated database, and many remote databases. The consolidated database can be one of several ODBC-compliant databases, including SQL Anywhere, Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and IBM DB2 (Mainframe).

whitepaper Reaching the Tipping Point for Two-Factor Authentication2009-12-01 Quest Software
Two-factor authentication is becoming more common in the world's largest companies. Smaller companies are also looking at it - and asking questions:
  • What's its appeal?
  • Is there a solid return on investment?
  • Why isn't every company adopting it?
In the Quest white paper, "Reaching the Tipping Point for Two-Factor Authentication," get the answers to help make an informed decision when adopting two-factor authentication for your company. Be ready when two-factor authentication becomes the norm. Read this white paper today.

whitepaper Smart Enterprise Single Sign-on2009-09-01 SECUDE
What is needed is an Enterprise Single Sign-On (E-SSO) solution that allows end-users to securely authenticate once and then access their desktop and their enterprise applications. And that is able to support all administrative and operational tasks required to efficiently use such a solution in an enterprise environment. This white paper describes how the requirements for a reliable and powerful enterprise single sign-on solution can be realized efficiently, conveniently, and at a low cost.

whitepaper Financial Opportunities of Reselling GlobalSign SSL Certificates2009-07-23 GlobalSign & GMO Internet
The GlobalSign Reseller Program is designed for ISP's, Web Hosts, Integrators, Domain Registrars and VARs who wish to integrate SSL Certificates into their own product range, maximizing the SSL reseller opportunity. For example there are many hosting companies that find they are already hosting hundreds of SSL Certificates from numerous CA's and are recognizing the potential for revenue gains by increasing their average customer values through providing SSL Certificates as an authorized reseller. Hosting companies who offer SSL Certificates in their hosting packages or as a value add option gain the immediate benefits of increased revenues and a more complete and "Sticky" product portfolio.

whitepaper Sub-Prime PKI: Attacking Extended Validation SSL2009-07-01 Black Hat
One of the attributes that the paper discusses is the type of SSL certificate presented by a web server when negotiating a secure connection. Modern web browsers support both Domain Validated (DV) and Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates. EV SSL certificates were created to combat phishing and other web based spoofing attacks which succeed in spite of the DV SSL model for web site identification. The EV SSL model improves upon the DV model in two ways. First, certificate authorities enforce a more thorough off-line validation process in order to more accurately identify the agent requesting the certificate as the owner of the domain which the certificate is for.

whitepaper Implementation of SSL Using Information Security Component Interface2009-06-08 Korea University
Various security APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) are being used in a variety of application areas requiring the information security function. However, these standards are not compatible, and the developer must use those APIs selectively depending on the application environment or the programming language. To resolve this problem, the paper proposes the standard draft of the information security component, while SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) using the confidentiality and integrity component interface has been implemented to verify validity of the standard proposal. The implemented SSL uses the lower-level SSL component when establishing the RMI (Remote Method Invocation) communication between components, as if the security algorithm had been implemented by adding one more layer on the TCP/IP.

whitepaper Introduction of SSL Protocol and OpenSSL Basic2009-05-04 Southern Illinois University
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a kind of cryptographic protocol that provides security and data integrity for communications over networks. SSL encrypt the segments of network connections at the Transport Layer. OpenSSL is an open source, multi-platform implementation of the SSL. Its core library implements the basic cryptographic functions and provides various utility functions. This paper will cover introduction and principle of SSL, installation and configuration of OpenSSL and some example of its application.

whitepaper Is It Too Late for PAKE?2009-05-02 University of California
The most common web authentication technique in use today is password authentication via an HTML form, where a user types her password directly into a web page from the site to which she wishes to authenticate herself. The problem with this approach is that it relies on the user to determine when it is safe to enter her password. To resist phishing and other social engineering attacks, a user must rely on the browser's security indicators and warning messages, e.g., the URL bar and the site's SSL certificate, to authenticate the website and determine when it is safe to enter her password. Unfortunately, studies suggest that many users habitually click through SSL certificate warnings and misunderstand or ignore browser security indicators.

whitepaper SSL VPN Grows Up: Time to Demand More From Your Next SSL VPN2009-05-01 WatchGuard Technologies
Years ago, businesses started turning to SSL VPNs to reduce the cost and complexity of remote access. Early SSL VPNs focused on relieving IT pain associated with IPSec VPN clients, using web browsers to help more remote workers reach common business applications. This value proposition prompted many companies to rethink legacy VPNs and launch successful SSL remote access deployments. Since then, business needs have continued to evolve. Today's workforce is more mobile than ever - demanding access to a wide variety of business applications and systems, from increasingly diverse devices and locations. IT departments must now find more efficient, effective ways to satisfy ever-changing connectivity needs.
