Comodo Certificate Manager for PKI Administration: Centrally Managing Enterprise Security, Trust & Regulatory Compliance | 2009-04-27 | Comodo |
| Digital certificates (PKI) protect information assets by supporting data encryption, authentication and integrity while at rest or in-transport. Certificates enable user identity and access validation, SSL encryption, and are employed to digitally sign and authenticate web content, process documents, email messages and software programs. Orchestrating this broad landscape of preventive, protection technologies, centralized PKI administration provides for the rapid deployment and reliable management of Enterprise Security, Trust and Regulatory Compliance. Effective PKI Management enables one to confidently address security challenges, significantly reducing business risks, and operating costs.

Centrally Managing Trust, Security & Compliance in Educational Institutions | 2009-04-27 | Comodo |
| A University with a continuously expanding number of web-enabled applications, servers and internet/networking arrangements was acquiring hundreds of SSL certificates each year. Multiple IT project leaders were independently sourcing digital certificates for each project or user as the requirement arose. Further, many of these certificates were used to support applications processing financial, personal and business confidential information. Without a simple way to coordinate and manage this critical and dynamic security environment, the University shouldered a costly administrative, digital certificate overhead. Just as important, security management and compliance controls were difficult, if not impossible, to assure. The distributed and ad-hoc approach to digital certificate management was inadvertently negating important security benefits.

FOAF+SSL: RESTful Authentication for the Social Web | 2009-04-20 | Sun Microsystems |
| The paper describes a simple protocol for RESTful authentication, using widely deployed technologies such as HTTP, SSL/TLS and Semantic Web vocabularies. This protocol can be used for one-click sign-on to web sites using existing browsers requiring the user to enter neither an identifier nor a password. Upon this, distributed, open yet secure social networks and applications can be built. After summarizing each of these technologies and how they come together in FOAF+SSL, the paper describes declaratively the reasoning of a server in its authentication decision. Finally, the paper compares this protocol to others in the same space.

A Study of the Performance of SSL on PDAs | 2009-04-09 | Indiana University |
| PDAs and smartphones are increasingly being used as handheld computers. Today, their network connectivity and their usages for various tasks over the Internet require privacy and authenticity. This paper conducts a comprehensive and comparative study of the performance of the SSL protocol for PDA and laptop clients, both in WEP secured and opens Wi-Fi environments. Unlike previous studies,, the measurements are at sub-protocol granularity allowing for researchers to consider appropriate optimizations for these resource-constrained devices. Unsurprisingly, the paper finds that SSL handshake costs 3 times more at a PDA client than it does for a laptop client, but surprisingly most of the delay comes from network latency and other PDA architecture issues, not cryptographic computation.

Convenient Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Web Portals & Enterprise Applications | 2009-04-01 | RSA Security |
| As the usage of online portals, SSL VPN applications, and Web Access Management (WAM) products continue to grow, so does the need for strong authentication to protect access to the information contained within them. Providing single-factor authentication, or password only protection, creates a significant security threat to organizations. Single-factor authentication is easily defeated by hackers and can result in a security breach, financial loss, or loss of sensitive data such as Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Concurrently, many IT departments are grappling with business requirements to extend access to enterprise applications to an even broader audience - including vendors, suppliers, partners and customers.
