whitepaper Thales Case Study: Secure Payment Submission2008-05-24 Thales
BACS (Bankers Automated Clearing System), the UK ACH service, is one of the largest and most successful money transfer organisations worldwide. Its Direct Debit and Direct Credit services process over 60m payment items in a busy day, on behalf of over 100,000 UK businesses. The infrastructure of BACSTEL is now aging rapidly, proving more expensive than more modern alternatives to operate and lacking the flexibility to support new, innovative services. The smartcard is used to digitally sign all payment instructions, tying them to the signer and ensuring that they cannot be accidentally or deliberately altered. Each bank has the flexibility to select its own Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for the issuing of the digital certificates used on this card.

whitepaper Large Polish Bank Gains Advanced Public Key Infrastructure With New Server Solution2008-05-01 Microsoft
One of the largest banks in Poland wanted to build a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to centralize the authentication of users, devices, and applications. The bank also wanted a mechanism to electronically sign and encrypt documents and e-mail messages. After a thorough evaluation, the bank deployed Windows Server 2008 - which offers built-in support for PKI - in a pilot environment, along with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007. The initial deployment was so successful that the bank plans to extend the solution throughout the organization by the end of 2008. The centralized authentication increases security by providing authorized access to both information and bank facilities. Improved efficiency helps accelerate decision making.

whitepaper WPA2 Security: Choosing the Right WLAN Authentication Method for Homes and Enterprises2008-04-09 Global Knowledge
Ask a hundred CIOs what three things about WLANs (wireless LANs) strike fear into their hearts, and the answers are likely to be similar: Security, Security, Security. Sure, you want good coverage. Sure, you want to minimize drops. But the only way an executive is likely to lose their job over a wireless network is if they end up like the folks at The TJX Companies, who saw millions of credit card numbers stolen from an attack that started with a breach of the WLAN.

This paper will explore the authentication methods available with WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) and identify several important best practices to consider when deploying a wireless network at home or in the enterprise.

whitepaper Towards Management of SLA-Aware Business Processes Based on Key Performance Indicators2008-04-08 University of Stuttgart
It is increasingly important that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are taken into account when business processes are exposed as services in a Service Oriented Architecture. SLAs define expected service behavior and nonfunctional properties of the service. The fact that the service provider has to offer certain guarantees concerning SLA properties has an impact on the business process lifecycle. This paper introduces a stepwise approach for management of SLA-aware service compositions based on process performance requirements specified as Key Performance Indicators. The approach is based on the process lifecycle known from Business Process Management and comprises a modeling, configuration and execution phase. The paper incorporates existing work on SLA modeling, QoS aggregation, and QoS-based service selection, and identifies several problems specific to SLA-aware business processes.

whitepaper Introduction to Validation for Federated PKI2008-03-20 CoreStreet
Trusted identity is central to all security. This statement has never been more applicable than it is today. Electronic transactions over the Internet are now commonplace and no longer considered the wave of the future. For government and industry, this brings the challenge of establishing trusted identities for large populations that are certified by many different trust domains. The use of public key technology and digital certificates has emerged as the preferred approach. Both commercial enterprises and government agencies are deploying Public Key Infrastructures (PKIs) to meet this challenge. The promise of PKI is that it can facilitate establishment of trusted identities for huge populations.
