Choosing a Vendor: 8 Key Points to Consider When You Need to Outsource | 2009-06-05 | SkillSoft |
| Even marketing departments at large companies will need to outsource some functions to firms who are more creative and resourceful in specific
areas. Most of the time, this is a win-win: you complete projects that your department doesn't have the capacity to do while creating a
relationship from which you can learn new trends, technologies, and niches in the industry. However, outsourcing can also come at a price: more palpable risks that the confidentiality of your business data could be breached, less control over the finished product, and higher costs. The four marketing executives featured in this ExecBlueprint discuss how their departments
have benefited in their work with vendors to complete more complex and creative projects faster and, in some cases, cheaper. Their primary advice? Select the vendor carefully: ask for references, price quotes, and work samples  and try out first on small projects. Stay in touch frequently and pay on time. Finaly, don't get complacent: seek other bids, keep contract
periods short, and assess performance to ensure you're continuing to receive your vendor's best price and efforts.

By measuring real-world performance and using realistic e-mail traffic patterns, the Tolly Group measured and tested the effectiveness of Abaca Technology Corporation's Email Protection Gateway (EPG) showing that 99.997% of inbound spam is eliminated.

Phishing: A Primer on What Phishing Is and How It Works | 2009-06-03 | DigiCert |
| Phishing is just one of the many ways that the Internet can be used to get people to unknowingly provide their personal financial information to fraudsters. A phishing attack is most often initiated with a special type of spam (unsolicited email) containing a link to a misleading domain name, which appears to be a legitimate site. The email tricks the recipient into visiting the spoofed web site - one that mimics a site where the person would normally feel comfortable entering a username and password or other personal information. This white paper explains how phishing works and how it can be combated.

OSD: An Online Web Spam Detection System | 2009-05-16 | Association for Computing Machinery |
| Web spam which refers to any deliberate actions bringing to selected web pages an unjustifiable favorable relevance or importance is one of the major obstacles for high quality information retrieval on the web. Most of the existing web spam detection methods are supervised that require a large and representative training set of web pages. Moreover, they often assume some global information such as a large web graph and snapshots of a large collection of web pages. They developed efficient online link spam and term spam detection methods using spamicity. This paper presents a demonstration of OSD, an Online Spam Detection system which can efficiently calculate a spamicity score online for any page on the web.
