whitepaper IronPort Streamlines Email at One of the World's Largest Computer Vendors2007-10-18 Cisco Systems
Dell Inc. receives millions of email messages every day. Managing Dell's email had become particularly difficult not only because there were so many layers to the infrastructure of the legacy system, but also because it had been scaled out and excessively load-balanced. The anti-spam solutions were quickly showing weakness against new spam attack variants. Initially, Dell brought in a few IronPort systems to supplement its existing email infrastructure. Its 103 disparate servers were replaced by ten IronPort C60 appliances and two IronPort A60 units. In early 2006, these original products were upgraded to IronPort X1000 and C300D systems, respectively, to take advantage of newer technologies.

whitepaper Leading University Turns to IronPort for an Education in Threat Protection2007-10-18 Cisco Systems
Unlike a private, commercial enterprise, California State University, Long Beach places a premium on maintaining an open email environment. However, with up to 400,000 messages traversing its email network daily, Cal State Long Beach faced increasing delays and backups as it attempted to manually control suspicious email traffic and thwart aggravating spam or potentially devastating viruses. Its previous solutions were proving increasingly inadequate. With thousands of student laptops, dormitory desktop systems and a large network of faculty and staff computers, Cal State Long Beach turned to IronPort Systems to provide the right email solution, without compromising its free flow of information. After researching its options, the University installed two IronPort C600 email security appliances as its border gateways for inbound and outbound messaging.

whitepaper Unclogging the Email System for Better Health Care2007-10-01 Cisco Systems
Ohio Heart was founded in 1995, through the merger of five of the highest quality cardiovascular practices in the Greater Cincinnati area. Ohio Heart receives 42,000 inbound messages per day - only about seven percent of which are legitimate. The remainders of the messages are spam, or the result of viruses, directory harvest attacks and phishing attacks. The company's older anti-spam appliance was unable to filter accurately, which resulted in an enormous database of quarantined mail that users had to check by hand. The system required frequent manual intervention, and active management of white- and blacklists. After an installation process that took less than one hour, the IronPort C10 email security appliance eliminated a remarkable amount of spam at Ohio Heart.

Folksam is one of Sweden's leading insurance companies and dates back to 1908, when it was founded as a mutually-owned company. But things were not running as smoothly as they could have been for the 4,300 email users. There was an increasing frustration caused by inboxes littered with spam and important messages getting lost. The existing system, MailMarshal, required constant checking and delivered 300-500 false positives per week. IronPort, offered a gateway solution independent of the email system and its users. It is closely integrated with LDAP for validation and filtering at all levels.

whitepaper International Retailer Reduces Junk E-Mails, Frees Up Network With New Security Solution0000-00-00 Microsoft
King of Shaves is a retail brand selling nearly 100 products. Its U.K. office has 25 administrative, management, sales, and production employees, while its U.S. office has two sales employees. Each product is linked to a customer care e-mail address, which generates a lot of junk mail for the company. Because its employees use e-mail and the Internet for more than half of all business activities and 95 per cent of customer correspondence is conducted using e-mail, King of Shaves relies heavily on filtering and security features to protect its communications from junk e-mail and virus attacks. Few years ago, the company began using Microsoft Forefront Client Security (formerly Antigen) to create a secure environment for all its business desktops, laptops, and server operating systems.

The Carlyle Group is a global, private equity firm with 25 offices and 650 employees. The firm currently has U.S.$39 billion in committed capital, making it one of the largest private equity firms in the world. During the past several years, some of the firm's senior managers had become plagued with unsolicited and potentially harmful e-mail messages. Many of these managers received several hundred spam messages per day, many of which contained offensive language. Their productivity suffered because they were required to spend the first hour of each day deleting e-mail messages. To better handle this problem, the firm deployed Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services to implement a hosted solution for spam filtering.
