whitepaper Network Access Protection: New Ways To Keep Your Network Healthy2006-12-19 01:00:22 Global Knowledge Network
Network Access Protection (NAP) is a security platform that allows the computer administrator to develop and implement computer compliance for network access and communication. Learn how NAP operates to isolate non-compliant or infected computers from the network until corrective measures can be taken.
whitepaper IE Zero Day and Web Attacker Kit: A special report2006-10-26 11:33:01 Trend Micro
How can a user maintain computer security when bad guys sell anyone attack kits online that exploit the very latest vulnerabilities in Microsoft software?
whitepaper A Bayesian Game Approach for Intrusion Detection in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks2006-10-13 Association for Computing Machinery
In wireless ad hoc networks, although defense strategies such as Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) can be deployed at each mobile node, significant constraints are imposed in terms of the energy expenditure of such systems. This paper proposes a game theoretic framework to analyze the interactions between pairs of attacking/defending nodes using a Bayesian formulation. It studies the achievable Nash equilibrium for the attacker/defender game in both static and dynamic scenarios. The dynamic Bayesian game is a more realistic model, since it allows the defender to consistently update his belief on his opponent's maliciousness as the game evolves.

whitepaper Webcast Transcript: Combating the Elevated Threat of Spyware in Today's SMBs2006-10-20 01:00:16 Webroot Software
Download this transcript of the Webroot-sponsored TechRepublic Webcast, Combating the Elevated Threat of Spyware in Today's SMBs, to find out what you missed if you were unable to join us for that event or don't have time to listen on demand.

Spyware is a real problem for small and mid-sized businesses today. In fact, more than 50 percent of small businesses experienced spyware attacks in the first quarter of 2006 alone! To drill down on this and other alarming statistics related to the frequency and severity of spyware infections in SMBs—and the countermeasures you can take to defend your network against rootkits, keyloggers, and Trojan horses—check out this eye-opening discussion between Jeff Hughes, Director of Product Marketing with Webroot Software, and James Hilliard, Moderator for TechRepublic.

Note: A recorded version of Combating the Elevated Threat of Spyware in Today's SMBs is also available, should you prefer to listen on demand.

whitepaper Modems - The Overlooked Threat2006-10-05 01:00:16 Sandstorm Enterprises
Everything old is new again. While discussing overlooked security threats to the organization, don't forget to mention modems. Nearly every new PC shipped includes a modem, yet the security emphasis is on the threat du jour: war-driving, bluejacking, or inadequate mobile security, for example. At Sandstorm Enterprises, the company understands that phones and modems are both a vital part of the business infrastructure and a potential avenue of attack. Sandstorm Enterprises makes PhoneSweep, a telephone system security audit tool that searches for and identifies modems, fax machines, and other devices attached to telephone lines. PhoneSweep can identify security risks such as unsecured modems and potential vulnerability to toll fraud.
whitepaper Winning the PCI Compliance Battle: A Guide for Merchants and Member Service Providers2006-11-10 08:20:59 Qualys
This white paper explores the compliance requirements for PCI data security and helps online merchants select a PCI compliance service vendor. It also introduces QualysGuard PCI, which helps online merchants scan and remediate vulnerabilities, and submit PCI compliance status directly to their acquiring banks via its "auto-submission" feature.

Topics in this Whitepaper include:

- Compliance Requirements of the PCI Data Security Standard
- Participation and Validation Requirements
- Selecting a PCI Network Security Testing Service
- Automating the PCI Validation Process with QualysGuard PCI

whitepaper Leveraging Security in the Native Platform Using Java SE 6 Technology2006-10-20 01:00:16 Sun Microsystems
The Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE) provides application developers with a large set of security APIs, tools, and implementations of commonly used security algorithms, mechanisms, and protocols. These security APIs span a wide range of areas, including cryptography, public key infrastructure, secure communication, authentication, and access control. In addition, the security tools facilitate the ability of users or administrators to securely deploy and manage Java platform applications. This paper discusses important enhancements on the native security integration using JDK 6.
whitepaper The Essential Elements of Comprehensive Endpoint Security2007-01-09 21:11:44 Symantec
Establishing a comprehensive endpoint security solution is a complicated undertaking. Issues such as accounting for unmanaged nodes increase the scope of the challenge. In addition, selecting and stitching together an appropriate set of countermeasures often depends on navigating a complex and proliferating landscape of applicable point products. Accordingly, the intent of this white paper is to clarify the various aspects of the endpoint security problem and to identify the functional requirements of a comprehensive endpoint security solution.
