GFI MailEssentials & GFI MailSecurity VS Symantec Brightmail 6 & Anti Virus | 2008-12-04 | GFi Software |
| GFI MailSecurity uses multiple virus scanners to scan inbound email. Using multiple scanners drastically reduces the average time to obtain virus signatures which combat the latest threats, and therefore greatly reduces the chances of an infection. The reason for this is that a single anti-virus company can never ALWAYS be the quickest to respond. For each outbreak, virus companies have varying response times to a virus, depending on where the virus was discovered and so on.

The Only Way to Permanently Remove Viruses, Spyware, and Malicious Code | 2008-12-01 | |
| The average computer user is aware of anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, but do they really work at removing the infection? In the author's experience, they do not work, at least not 100% of the time or even close to that. Virus and spyware removal can take many, many hours to complete. First one has to scan the computer, then they must remove the infections. If one is using multiple anti-spyware applications, one will have to scan and remediate with each piece of software. The usual run time is about 1-2 hours depending on the speed of the computer and the size of the hard drive. Add in multiple scans and one can easily see how this can take up lots of time.

Computer Virus Propagation Model Based on Variable Propagation Rate | 2008-11-29 | Huazhong Normal University |
| In this paper, two different propagation models based on different topologies of email network are proposed. By analyzing the means and the characters of email virus spreading, the function of email virus propagation is given, and the maximum time of email virus propagation before the anti-virus software is calculated. The condition in which email virus propagation stops is also proved. The relation between average node degree and power law exponent is discussed later. The models have been testified its rationality through simulation experiments.

| Citrix Systems is the global leader and the most trusted name in application delivery infrastructure. With security threats increasing in complexity and scope, they needed to protect their network infrastructure and data around the clock, around the globe, every single day. With limited resources for IT security and shrinking windows of availability for patch management, they needed all the help they can get to protect against threats, especially zero-day viruses. Citrix conducted an intensive evaluation of the top three anti-virus solutions. Adding to its existing arsenal of McAfee security risk management solutions, Citrix purchased McAfee Total Protection (ToPS) for Endpoint to provide anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, firewall, email filtering, and host intrusion prevention across all 10,000 systems.

Untangling the Wheat From the Chaff in Comparative Anti-Virus Reviews | 2008-11-04 | Small Blue-Green World |
| One of the banes of the anti-virus researcher's life is the widespread confusion about "Correct" comparative testing of anti-virus and anti-malware products. The author has just been looking at some reports describing an "AntiVirus Fightclub" test carried out recently at LinuxWorld. Forget the fact that this looks at first glance like a test of Linux products (actually, it wasn't): there are questions to be raised about testing methodology that need to be considered on any platform.
