whitepaper WebSphere for z/OS to CICS and IMS Connectivity Performance2006-04-04 03:01:59
This paper focuses on helping you understand the performance implications of the different connectivity options from WebSphere for IBM z/OS to CICS or IMS. For this paper, two options are selected and a measurement environment is created to simulate customer scenarios. For the CICS customers, tests are run with CICS TG, SOAP for CICS, and CICS MQ DPL Bridge. For the IMS customers, tests are also run with IMS Connect and with IMS MQ DPL Bridge.
whitepaper Hospital System Replaces Mainframe With Windows-Based Solution, Saves $10 Million2006-01-01 Microsoft
When ProMedica Health System expanded from three hospitals to eight in just few years, it found itself with hospital information systems running on UNIX, AS/400, and mainframe platforms. ProMedica needed to consolidate on a solution that would help ensure its strategic growth over the next decade. The company chose the Stockell InsightCS solution running on Microsoft Windows Server System integrated server software. The hardware and software costs were as much as U.S.$10 million less than what it would have cost ProMedica to consolidate on one of its existing platforms. The solution, along with other procedural changes, speeds the monthly close by 42 percent and cuts accounts receivable time by 10 percent.

whitepaper System z9 and eServer zSeries Capacity Backup2006-01-25 01:01:34
CBU is a member of the family of flexible Capacity on Demand offerings for IBM System z9 and eServer zSeries. CBU helps provide reserved emergency backup processing capacity for situations in which you lose capacity in another part of your establishment, helping you recover by adding reserved capacity on a designated System z9 or zSeries system. A CBU system normally operates with a base processing configuration and with a pre-configured number of additional processing units reserved for activation in case of an emergency. The activation is typically done electronically - and quickly - helping to eliminate time otherwise spent waiting for a technician to arrive.
whitepaper IBM System z9 and eServer zSeries With Capacity on Demand2006-01-25 01:01:34 IBM
Get what you need - when you need it - and pay for only what you use. IBM capacity on demand is really that simple. In the highly unpredictable world of on demand business, you deserve no less. Choose Capacity Upgrade on Demand for a permanent increase of processing capacity, On/Off Capacity on Demand for a temporary increase or choose one of the other like-minded models to suit your needs. Take advantage of the flexible IBM Capacity on Demand programs and you'll be more than ready to compete in the On Demand marketplace.
whitepaper Linux Software Management With Aduva OnStage2005-12-22 01:01:52
This paper describes Aduva OnStage, an application for software configuration management of Linux and Solaris systems. Aduva OnStage supports multiple Linux distributions running on various hardware platforms. This paper focuses on managing Linux servers running on IBM System z9 and zSeries. A Linux system is an assembly of many applications, utilities, and libraries running under the control of the Linux kernel. This software is available as source code from developers all around the world. Aduva OnStage offers a level of abstraction to hide complexity and ease software configuration management of Linux systems.
whitepaper Diagnosing Performance Problems With WebSphere Application Server on z/OS2006-03-03 01:01:28
There is always a need to be able to diagnose performance problems. In order to diagnose performance problems on any combination of machines, with any combination of products, there is a certain amount of conceptual material to introduce. The information in this paper, while using WebSphere on z/OS as an example, is applicable to any machine running a J2EE application server. This paper is divided into four parts - questions and answers to introduce conceptual material, a flow chart of places to search for answers to your performance problem, some real examples of what was done for various performance problems and a list of hints and tips that will potentially eliminate performance problems before they occur.
whitepaper Managing a Virtual Computing Environment: How TeamQuest Supports VMware's Virtual Machines2005-11-30 01:00:03 TeamQuest
It took virtualization to truly fulfill the promise of a server-based architecture. But any IT breakthrough is only truly useful if it can be integrated and managed as part of the overall infrastructure. In particular, monitoring, managing and conducting capacity planning for virtual resources presents a unique series of challenges. That's why TeamQuest added VMware to the platforms it supports, making it easy to seamlessly manage a mix of virtual and physical assets.
whitepaper Why the IBM Mainframe Is an Effective Choice for Banks2005-11-01 IBM
Retail banks around the world are faced with a growing set of challenges. To achieve organic growth, banks are expected to focus heavily on customer retention and increased wallet share. As a result of these challenges, banks may be considering Core Banking application transformation in order to support organic growth. The mainframe can be a key component of Core Banking System transformation. The benefits banks may achieve through transforming an environment to a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) center on mainframes are increased agility and the ability to respond to changing market conditions. By mainframe, we are referring to the IBM System z9 and eServer zSeries.
whitepaper Linux on zSeries: Hardware and Software Encryption Performance for WebSphere Application Server2006-01-04 01:01:52
IBM designs mainframes to provide an environment that is security rich and responsive. The use of cryptographic accelerator hardware is one of the ways that IBM designers respond to the problems of security and responsiveness. Since Secure Socket Layer (SSL) handshakes require extensive compute resource, the cryptographic accelerator hardware is used to offload the encryption/decryption tasks from the central processor. In this paper the Scalability Center for Linux explores the performance of Linux running on an IBM eServer zSeries 900 (z900) processor equipped with PCICA cryptographic accelerator hardware. IBM WebSphere Application Server software was used to drive a workload that simulates an on-line brokerage operation.
whitepaper IBM WebSphere MQ V5.3 CSD 6 (31-Bit) on SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server V8.1 for IBM eServer zSeries2006-01-04 01:01:52
The purpose of this paper is to study certain performance characteristics and the vertical, horizontal scalability of the 31-bit version of IBM WebSphere MQ for Linux on zSeries. The test was conducted using the MQ v5.3 CSD 6 (31-bit) on SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server v8.1 for IBM zSeries. In addition, a Java benchmark using JMS (Java Messaging Service) called JMSPRIM was used. JMSPRIM is a benchmark developed by the IBM WebSphere Application Server performance team to evaluate application server's performance in the area of JMS.
