This paper focuses on helping you understand the performance implications of the different connectivity options from WebSphere for IBM z/OS to CICS or IMS. For this paper, two options are selected and a measurement environment is created to simulate customer scenarios. For the CICS customers, tests are run with CICS TG, SOAP for CICS, and CICS MQ DPL Bridge. For the IMS customers, tests are also run with IMS Connect and with IMS MQ DPL Bridge.

Hospital System Replaces Mainframe With Windows-Based Solution, Saves $10 Million 2006-01-01 Microsoft

When ProMedica Health System expanded from three hospitals to eight in just few years, it found itself with hospital information systems running on UNIX, AS/400, and mainframe platforms. ProMedica needed to consolidate on a solution that would help ensure its strategic growth over the next decade. The company chose the Stockell InsightCS solution running on Microsoft Windows Server System integrated server software. The hardware and software costs were as much as U.S.$10 million less than what it would have cost ProMedica to consolidate on one of its existing platforms. The solution, along with other procedural changes, speeds the monthly close by 42 percent and cuts accounts receivable time by 10 percent.

IBM designs mainframes to provide an environment that is security rich and responsive. The use of cryptographic accelerator hardware is one of the ways that IBM designers respond to the problems of security and responsiveness. Since Secure Socket Layer (SSL) handshakes require extensive compute resource, the cryptographic accelerator hardware is used to offload the encryption/decryption tasks from the central processor. In this paper the Scalability Center for Linux explores the performance of Linux running on an IBM eServer zSeries 900 (z900) processor equipped with PCICA cryptographic accelerator hardware. IBM WebSphere Application Server software was used to drive a workload that simulates an on-line brokerage operation.

The purpose of this paper is to study certain performance characteristics and the vertical, horizontal scalability of the 31-bit version of IBM WebSphere MQ for Linux on zSeries. The test was conducted using the MQ v5.3 CSD 6 (31-bit) on SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server v8.1 for IBM zSeries. In addition, a Java benchmark using JMS (Java Messaging Service) called JMSPRIM was used. JMSPRIM is a benchmark developed by the IBM WebSphere Application Server performance team to evaluate application server's performance in the area of JMS.
